The Dean of Students serves as the senior Student Affairs representative on the Oconee campus and is a member of the Oconee campus leadership team. As the Dean of Student, this position is responsible for managing and coordinating a collaborative approach to supporting student success. The Dean of Students regularly triages and responds to student concerns and needs, making referrals when necessary. The position directly supervises the Student Services representative on the Oconee campus and works collaboratively with other Student Affairs representatives on the campus including Student Counseling, Student Accessibility Services, and Student Involvement. 
 

The Dean of Students will implement strategies to promote student success, student engagement, and student retention through collaboration with other leaders on the Oconee campus, in the Division of Student Affairs, and in the Division of Academic Affairs. The position reports to the Dean of Students on the Dahlonega campus, but provides input into the overall direction of student affairs and other student services and works in collaboration with the other Deans of Students. 

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for students encountering concerns in their experience or facing complex and hardship circumstances. Educate and serve as case manager regarding appropriate policies, support and intervention, providing referrals to and coordinating services with other departments as needed and utilizing diplomacy and discretion in working with students, faculty, and parents.
  • Serve as the senior Student Affairs representative for the Oconee campus and a member of the leadership team of the Oconee campus.  In partnership with the Executive Director and the Assistant Dean for Academic Administration, identify and implement strategies to promote student success, student retention and recruitment, and support campus initiatives.
  • Provide crisis intervention services and resource referrals to students as needed, including maintaining accurate and timely documentation in Maxient. Chair the Behavior Intervention Team for the Oconee campus, serve as case manager for BIT  cases and collaborate with colleagues regarding.
  • Work with students and families regarding Hardship Withdrawals and Excused Absences to determine the appropriateness of these requests, conduct reviews of requests, and communicate findings with involved faculty and administrative offices.
  • Provide supervision and assistance to the Coordinator of Student Services regarding alignment with Student Affairs to implement programs and services that support the co-curricular and curricular initiatives based on the overall assessed needs of the Oconee campus.
  • Educate regarding community standards and serve as conduct officer or administrative hearing officer to adjudicate cases assigned for alleged violations of the UNG Code of Conduct.  Serve as a CSA and resource regarding policies that direct institutional response and support, maintaining collaborative relationships and communication with multi-campus colleagues.
  • Work with the VP of Regional campuses, the Executive Director of the Oconee campus, and Enrollment Services on targeted recruitment and recruit-back efforts for special populations.
  • Provide direction and supervision to the administrative assistant regarding departmental budget decisions and overall service delivery in compliance with all policies and procedures. 
  • Masters degree in student personnel or related field; doctorate preferred. 
  • Minimum five years Higher Education Experience, preferably  with experience in providing outreach to college or high school students. 
  • Experience with student success initiatives, project planning and policy review/development. 
  • Mental Health First Aid preferred.
