Primary Purpose of Department

The Division administers and manages the University’s sponsored research activities, performs comprehensive research development, proposal preparation, and post-award functions, including identifying and publicizing funding opportunities, coordinating the proposal review and submission process, interacting with external funding agencies and sponsors on behalf of the university, processing grant and contract award documents, administrating sponsored projects from startup through close out, overseeing research compliance and protections, and preparing and disseminating reports of sponsored program activity.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Data Reporting and Business Systems Analyst will transform, analyze, package, and present data to senior leadership and campus partners to inform and provide data analyses for better decision making. The position will act as a lead position in the oversight and management of the eRA campus-wide research awards system with data reporting and analyses responsibilities and supervisory responsibilities of a Business Systems II. The analyst will support the ongoing development, enhancement, and maintenance of the university’s electronic research administration (ERA; InfoEd) system, which consists of multiple modules including Proposal Development, Proposal Tracking, Award Tracking, Animal Facilities Management, Laboratory Animals, Biosafety, Human Subjects, Conflict of Interest, and Financial Management.
Summary of Position Responsibilities
  • Acts as the point of contact for InfoEd enhancements, maintenance and customization
  • Writes customized InfoEd reports in order to leverage data
  • Collects large sets of structured and unstructured data from various sources and performs data cleansing in order to make recommendations to senior leadership and campus partners.
  • Analyzes data to identify patterns and trends,
  • Interprets the data to discover solutions and opportunities,
  • Communicates findings to stakeholders using visualization tools and other means,
  • Works directly with ERA vendor to manage tickets and upgrades/changes/enhancements to InfoEd system,
  • Make business decisions to configure and optimize the system,
  • Provide ongoing support and access to system users.

The position requires a thorough understanding of the modules and system structure and functionality, including a working knowledge of workflows, data structure, user roles and permissions and reporting tools. The position requires research administration knowledge as well as business analytics, project management and system implementation experience and a demonstrated commitment to customer service.
The position also involves maintaining and updating manuals, training materials, and in-system help to support campus stakeholders. This position works closely with OneIT and supports users and DR leadership in compiling data and reports both routinely and on an ad hoc basis.
Other responsibilities include creating test scenario cases for modules as updates are made, working with OneIT to solve any functional problems, and conducting training sessions for all end users.
Minimum Education/Experience
  • Masters degree and 2-4 years experience
  • Or a bachelors degree with 3-5 years experience
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Masters degree in Business/Data Analytics or similar field
  • 2+ years direct experience with InfoEd ERA management software
  • 2+ years working in a research unit in a higher education setting
  • SQL or report development experience, data analysis experience, problem-solving skills
  • Experience using a variety of databases and software applications in analyzing the performance of database functionality
  • Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, and communications skills (both oral and written)
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment
