Position Summary
The newly funded Mississippi Delta Research Center of Excellence in Maternal Health located in the College of Health Sciences, at Jackson State University, is seeking an experienced Data Manager to lead the development and utilization of the Center’s data systems. The individual will be responsible for identifying efficient methods to organize, store, and analyze data while maintaining strict security and confidentiality measures.

Qualifications


Minimum Required Education
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, data science, information technology, statistics, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred; however, relevant work experience and technical skills are required for consideration.
Minimum Required Experience
The successful applicant should have a minimum of 3 years of experience in a research setting.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Proven experience as a data manager
  • Excellent understanding of data administration and management functions (collection, analysis, distribution, etc.)
  • Familiarity with modern database and information system technologies, including REDCap software.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Access, Word etc.)
  • An analytical mindset with problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • BSc/BA in computer science or relevant field
  • Prefer: Master’s degree and/or other certifications
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Create and enforce policies for effective data management in collaboration with the Center’s multiple Pls.
  • Formulate techniques for quality data collection to ensure adequacy, accuracy, and legitimacy of data.
  • Devise and implement efficient and secure procedures for data handling and analysis with attention to all technical aspects.
  • Establish rules and procedures for data sharing with upper management, external stakeholders, etc.
  • Support others in the daily use of data systems and ensure adherence to legal and company standards.
  • Assist with reports and data extraction when needed.
  • Monitor and analyze information and data systems and evaluate their performance to discover ways of enhancing them (new technologies, upgrades, etc.)
  • Ensure digital databases and archives are protected from security breaches and data losses.
  • Troubleshoot data-related problems and authorize maintenance or modifications.
