Job Description:

Bellarmine University is seeking a Data Engineer with responsibility for maintaining the data warehouse, pipelines, and models to join the Office of Information Technology. This position will report to the Sr. Director of Enterprise Data and ERP Ecosystem.

The Data Engineer is responsible for designing and maintaining enterprise data warehouses and lakes that store and process critical data for the university. The Data Engineer ensures data integrity, quality, and security throughout the data lifecycle, from data entry, definition, storage, to reporting. The Data Engineer also supports and collaborates with administrators and staff across the institution in the data mapping, integration, and analysis using various tools and techniques. The Data Engineer plays a key role in ensuring the data compliance with state and federal regulations as well as internal reporting to optimize budget and resource efficiency.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide oversight of all data acquired, collected, generated, purchased, or via any other method used by Bellarmine for any purpose. This oversight begins with data creation or acquisition and continues until the data is ultimately disposed of.

Serve as the principal architect of Bellarmine's data warehouse/data lake strategy; and take ownership for the successful implementation of the strategy.

Help to ensure all data is stored, accessed, processed, and transmitted using best available and affordable information security methods; this includes serving as a training resource to help Bellarmine community members learn how to apply these methods to data they or their department / division / school own.

Take ownership of the data usage conversation at Bellarmine and drive the agenda. Provide appropriate guidance to Bellarmine leadership at all levels regarding the appropriate sourcing and use of data.  Keep aware of the latest in regulatory requirements regarding privacy.

Continuously research reporting platforms that are available in the higher ed space and be able to clearly explain those platforms to Bellarmine audiences of varying technical capacities.

Serve as a thought leader and key resource for the various data analysts who serve around the Bellarmine community.

Oversee Bellarmine's Data Retention/Purge policy, proposing updates as our data and/or applicable retention / purge regulations change.  Serve as a resource to Bellarmine's various departments / divisions / schools and provide an audit function for same.

Ensure system data integrity to support accurate compliance reporting and reliable metrics for institutional data informed decisions.

Drive the creation and validation of dashboards that will support increasing efficiency in time, resources, or supporting student success.

Maintain security and confidentiality regarding all appropriate files, records, and documents.

Clearly and effectively communicate with various groups of Bellarmine community members of varying technical capacities.

Help Bellarmine community members troubleshoot problems, and either directly work toward finding solutions or working with other support resources to solve the problems.

Assume additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.


Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION / EXPERIENCE)
Bachelors degree in a relevant technical field and four years of hands-on experience in a similar role, but additional experience in a relevant technical field will be considered.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Windows Server administration skills.

SQL Server administration, including a solid functional knowledge of building data queries, data manipulation, data definition, and data control statements.

SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) experience.

Ellucian Colleague (R18) administration, including DMI & Envision patch management, Web API, Self-Service, and UI support and troubleshooting.

Colleague Reporting and Operational Analysis (CROA) experience.

Knowledge of Ellucian SaaS technologies is very beneficial, including any of the following:
