Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Since 1966, researchers at the Carolina Population Center have pioneered data collection and research techniques that move population science forward by emphasizing life course approaches, longitudinal surveys, the integration of biological measurement into social surveys, and attention to context and environment. We are also at the forefront of creating interdisciplinary training programs that integrate approaches from the social and biological sciences, building research capacity and training the next generation of scholars. Our faculty fellows address pressing research questions about population dynamics, fertility, health, mortality, migration, and the environment. Faculty come from multiple disciplines, benefitting from the cross-pollination of ideas. Position Summary
THIS POSTING IS FOR TWO IDENTICAL POSITIONS (POSITION NUMBERS  20020499 and 20064175).  BY APPLYING, YOU WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR BOTH AVAILABLE POSITIONS.  
The Data Coordinator is one of only five positions that are firewall-protected with access to identifiers in a national, longitudinal study spanning over two decades. This position assists the Assistant PII Manager and PII Manager in overseeing three major subcontractors (the survey data collector, the biomarker data collector, and the laboratory for study specimen processing, assay and storage) and assists with satellite study components involving direct interaction with respondents. The Data Coordinator works as part of the PII Team together with the Biology Team and Data Management Team for planning and development purposes. The Data Coordinator works independently to respond to participant inquiries and needs, and to facilitate email, mail and phone communications for multiple Add Health related studies. This position is overseen and supervised by the Assistant PII Manager. In addition, the Data Coordinator will help to manage and maintain the confidential records system housed within a secure data facility at CPC and help to develop research communications scripts and materials packaging. Overall, the Data Coordinator will play an integral role within the research team, and supports the Assistant PII Manager, PII Manager, data management team and research project as a whole.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
This position must be able to work independently with minimal oversight. Preference for candidates with experience using Microsoft Office products and demonstrated experience working with a computer database or tracking system. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and experience interacting with research subjects by phone, email, or mail. Must be able to maintain thorough and consistent documentation. Requires strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
A Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution, plus one or more years of training or experience working on a social science research project. Preference for experience with study recruitment, and/or assisting on large-scale, fast-paced research study. Preference for knowledge/experience of human subjects and confidentiality issues related to research.
