Job Description

 

The Data Architect will be responsible for designing and implementing the overall data architecture for UT Health San Antonio. This includes defining data models, data flow diagrams and data dictionaries that will be used by various departments across the institution. The Data Architect will also be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and optimization of the data architecture, ensuring that data is accurate, complete, and easily accessible. The Data Architect will work independently to design, develop, and architect ETL/ELT (Extract, Transform, Load/Extract, Load, Transform) resources for various healthcare data management systems. They will work with Epic Cogito, Caboodle, SSIS, Custom Data Marts, Data Management, Data Lakes, and Cloud Data Management areas. Design and build data marts/Analytics to support payer mix for 340b, Medicaid.  Help support strategic planning, building architecture needed to support pre-hospital assumptions, various teams such as quality, strategy.  Skill set to include Vizient data, SG2, THCIC, to safely architect in a manner to reduce cyber risks. The Data Architect will work closely with subject matter experts to troubleshoot data migration issues and will collaborate with peers and functional leaders to categorize and segregate data. They will also be responsible for developing templates and standards for ETL/ELT development and documenting workflows. The Data Architect will possess a strong understanding of PHI/PII (Protected Health Information/Personally Identifiable Information) principles and health system data, principles, and coding standards (CPT, ICD, LOINC).

 

 

 

Under limited supervision, responsible for designing and constructing relational databases for data warehousing.  Leads or mentors lower-level team members.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Possesses and applies broad knowledge Data Warehousing principles, practices, and procedures to the completion of difficult assignments and complex situations.
  • Expert knowledge and application in dimensional modeling, cube design and development using SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), SSIS and MS Analytics.
  • Ability to analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and apply sound decisions making skills.
  • Ability to work on projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability and willingness to help supervise and develop less experienced staff.

    Job Duties:

    1.        Design and implement data models that support the needs of various departments across UT Health San Antonio

  • Develop data flow diagrams to illustrate how data is collected, processed, and stored.
  • Create and maintain data dictionaries to ensure that data is consistent and easy to understand.
  • Work with other IT staff to ensure that data is integrated into various systems and applications.
  • Monitor data quality and develop strategies to ensure that data is accurate and complete.
  • Develop and implement data security policies and procedures to protect sensitive data.
  • Analyze data to identify trends and patterns that can be used to improve patient care and operational efficiency.
  • Stay up to date with emerging trends and technologies in data architecture and recommend new tools and techniques as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with other IT staff to ensure that data architecture is aligned with overall IT strategy.
  • Design, develop, and architect ETL/ELT resources for various healthcare data management systems.
  • Work with Epic Cogito, Caboodle, SSIS, Custom Data Marts, Data Management, Data Lakes, and Cloud Data Management areas.
  • Troubleshoot data migration issues and collaborate with subject matter experts.
  • Develop templates and standards for ETL/ELT development and document workflows.
  • Ensure compliance with PHI/PII principles and health system data, principles, and coding standards (CPT, ICD, LOINC).
  • Review new technologies and make recommendations for adoption to management. •
  • Work towards meeting the team’s and organization’s strategic plan, monitoring and adapting based on institutional portfolio, program, or project needs.
  • Provide guidance and training to less experienced staff.
  • Perform hands-on assistance with ancillary system configurations and validation rounds when necessary.

    Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field is required.

     

    Experience:

    Five (5) years related experience is required.

    Epic Cogito, Caboodle, Data Management, and Cloud Data Management certifications are strongly preferred. 

    Knowledge of healthcare data and regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA) is preferred.
