University Advancement (UA) supports the entire CMU community in building relationships with key constituencies and securing the financial resources the university needs to continue its ascent. As the division grows, we are seeking a Data Analyst. This is an exciting opportunity if you thrive in an interesting and challenging work environment. Reporting to the senior director, Advancement Analytics you will create reports and dashboards to support both frontline work and strategic decision making. You will also enable and improve the flow of information into and out of data systems, as well as improve the efficiency and utility of business processes in University Advancement. This position cultivates, develops, and maintains collaborative relationships to understand specific business needs of colleagues, evaluates the effectiveness with which those needs are being met, and identifies opportunities for increased efficiencies through effective utilization of technology and data.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Reporting and Analysis: Creating reports, charts, and dashboards to support Advancement staff. Creating metadata reports to track system usage and guide support efforts. Helping to identify and resolve data integrity issues. Maintaining existing reports. Empowering end users to create their own reports via training and by creating data sources. Supporting the flow of information to improve the efficiency of business processes and the quality of decision making in University Advancement. Creating and supporting the use of report documentation.
  • Project Analysis and Management: Cultivating, developing and maintaining collaborative relationships aimed at understanding the specific business needs of colleagues. Evaluating the effectiveness with which business needs are being met, and identifying opportunities for increased efficiencies through effective utilization of technology and data.
  • Technology Knowledge: Keeping up-to-date with current technology. Maintaining proactive relationship our software vendors and their user communities. Interacting online and in person with developers and users from other institutions. Researching and reviewing relevant products.
  • Department Participation: Attending project team and departmental meetings. Providing status reports to supervisor and colleagues. Sharing knowledge with teammates and other coworkers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

You should be able to travel domestically and be willing to work outside of normal business hours as needed.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree is required; preferably with a specialization in business intelligence, data analysis, or related field.
  • Three to five years of report writing or analysis experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with Salesforce, Tableau, Crystal Reports, or Snowflake is preferred.
  • Familiarity with SQL is preferred.
