Dr. Joshua Jeong is an Assistant Professor in the Hubert Department of Global Health. He is working with multiple international NGO partners in Kenya and Tanzania to design and evaluate parenting interventions to improve mothers’ and fathers’ caregiving practices and early childhood development during the first three years of life. His research program uses mixed-methods and has a strong focus on applied research to improve implementation, quality, and effectiveness of parenting interventions. He is looking to hire a full-time Data Analyst. The staff’s role will be to support quantitative and qualitative data analysis for the ongoing projects. Responsibilities include working with PI and study the team assist with the coding of qualitative data that have been collected from focus group discussions throughout the intervention pretesting process with parents; support development of new survey questionnaires/study tools to use for endline data collection; manage quantitative data cleaning and analysis of recently collected data pertaining to parenting and child development; support creation of monitoring tools to track program fidelity and quality; travel to Tanzania and/or Kenya to assist with trainings and technical support for field research activities; and contribute to writing of protocols, reports, manuscripts, and presentations of study findings.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Creates and maintains a data dictionary and meta data.
  • Supports efforts to ensure that data standards are developed and maintained.
  • Ensures that the uses of data through reports and queries are accurate.
  • Supports business and system re-engineering and architecture development to define future data needs.
  • Serves as an organizational consultant on matters relating to databases by providing expertise to assist users in meeting their needs.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:

 

The candidate must be highly organized, have attention to detail, be able to manage multiple ongoing activities, and capable of working independently and in a team environment. The position will be primary on-campus but with ability to work from home on average 1-2 days per week. The initial appointment is for one-year with potential for renewal based on performance and funding availability.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree and one year of experience in data analysis, statistics, or a related field, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The ideal candidate will have a master's degree in public health, education, social work, or related discipline with prior qualitative or quantitative data analysis experience.
  • Proficiency in STATA or R for conducting quantitative analysis; and NVivo, Atlas.ti, or Dedoose for conducting qualitative data analysis.
  • Knowledge and prior experience related to early child development, parenting and family relationships, maternal and child health, male engagement and gender, and/or implementation and evaluation of community-based interventions.
  • Field research experience in East Africa or other low-resource settings globally is also preferred.
