Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The offices within the Enrollment Division (Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Office of Scholarships and Student Aid (OSSA), the Office of the University Registrar, and the Carolina College Advising Corps) focus on increasing the enrollment of outstanding students from North Carolina and beyond, including students who strengthen diversity; meeting the full demonstrated financial need of all undergraduate students who qualify for federal aid; maintaining the integrity of the student record and academic and administrative processes; supporting student success; and providing great care to all who come our way. The work of the Enrollment Division is closely scrutinized by students and their families; by faculty, staff, students, and alumni; by secondary-school teachers and administrators; by lawmakers at the local, state, and national level; and by the media.

Position Summary

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks innovative and accomplished candidates for the position of Data Analyst for Enrollment. This professional will serve as a key member of the Enrollment Division, which includes the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, the Office of Scholarships and Student Aid, the Office of the University Registrar, and the Carolina College Advising Corps.

The Data Analyst will report to and collaborate with the Director of Strategic Data Analysis to analyze data from across the division; create reports and dashboards; evaluate trends; and develop models to advance the University’s enrollment operations and strategy. The position will also contribute to ensuring data integrity and collaborate with campus units and external organizations involved in the reporting and analysis of enrollment data.

The ideal candidate will understand the student lifecycle from prospect through graduation and will have the ability to provide metrics supporting the University’s mission of recruiting and enrolling talented students who will succeed at Carolina and beyond.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Master’s and 1-2 years’ experience; or Bachelors and 2-4 years’ experience; or will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Demonstrated knowledge of data collection and analysis techniques; experience developing data visualizations and reports to support decision making; understanding of statistics; knowledge of relational databases and complex software applications.

Experience with applied statistical approaches, including regression analysis, significance testing, and descriptive statistics.

Demonstrated knowledge of statistical software and/or reporting using tools, such as such as Tableau, SAS, Stata, SPSS, R, Python, Matlab, Power BI, SQL, Access, or Excel.

Ability to present technical information, complex findings, and recommendations in a clear, concise manner both in writing and verbally.

Ability to work independently to investigate questions or issues, as well as within a team setting on collaborative projects, initiatives, and working groups.

Ability to collaborate with colleagues across campus.

Attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to create and maintain documentation of projects and processes.

Ability to work within tight time constraints and to adapt to changing conditions or requirements, including managing multiple projects and tasks.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

* Experience analyzing admissions, financial aid, retention, graduation, and related student data is preferred.
* Ability to translate and apply alternative industry knowledge and experiences to these concepts where applicable.
* Experience in higher education working with PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, Ellucian Banner, Slate Technolutions, or comparable student applications is preferred.
