Posting Summary
Coordinate and administer programs, projects and activities with agricultural research, on-farm trials, and dairy grant related programs, as well as provide specialized technical expertise in these areas to support designated University research initiatives and areas. Conduct integrated research and related comprehensive educational programs in the areas of dairy, nutrient and feed management, and forages. Work with farmers to analyze their current forage management and feeding practices, evaluate and provide assistance, and assist the farmer with moving towards the recommendations. Develop and deliver whole farm climate-smart grazing, nutrient, and feed management education and USDA compliant plans. This position reports to the UVM Extension Agronomic Specialist.
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Bachelor’s degree in dairy science, agricultural management or other related field and three to five years of dairy agriculture knowledge, on-farm experience, academic research in agriculture, or working directly with farmers required. Knowledge of climate resilience practices and strategies, and commercial farm systems. Effective written and verbal communication skills required to work with researchers, farmers, and the general public. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to speak in public. Data collection and organizational skills required. Ability to prioritize tasks and problem-solve. Technical and creative writing skills and proficiency in the use of computers and other electronic technologies required. Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle for travel to worksites.

4 month probationary period required.
Position located in Extension St. Albans Office.
Irregular hours may be required.
Must have the ability to travel to and from worksites.
