JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:


The Dairy Nutrition laboratory of Dr. Alex Hristov in the Department of Animal Science, The Pennsylvania State University is seeking a highly motivated and organized Research Technologist. A successful candidate for this position will have both laboratory and large animal experience. The main responsibilities will include participation and management of research projects with dairy cattle at the Department of Animal Science's Dairy Research and Teaching Center and at commercial dairy farms. The candidate will help with managing an animal nutrition research laboratory, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment, and will be involved in training and supervising of undergraduate and graduate students. Further responsibilities include training users in equipment operation and research techniques, development of analytical procedures, coordinating and conducting sample and data collection, processing, and analysis, purchasing of supplies and equipment, managing chemical and equipment inventories, and other tasks related to managing a research laboratory. Also, this person will participate and be responsible for the conduct of nutritional experiments with dairy cows, which will involve feed preparation and feeding, feed and animal sample samples collection and processing, experimental data processing and analysis, and other related tasks. This is a limited term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of refunding.

 


Education and Experience:

This position typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus 4 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Master of Science degree in Animal Science or related disciplines and experience with dairy cattle is preferable. Attention to detail and excellent communication skills is required in order to relate and converse well with the research team.

This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
