Job Description Summary: | GW Information Technology (GW IT) provides empowering tools and caring support for all members of The George Washington University (GW) community. Research Technology Services (RTS) is a team of Research Computing and Data (RCD) professionals within GW IT that provide and support various cyberinfrastructure (CI) systems and services in support of GW’s research mission. The RTS service portfolio includes high-performance computing clusters; public cloud infrastructure, purpose-built computational, data management, storage platforms, and application and workflow support across a wide array of research disciplines. All RTS members have a blend of “system facing” and “researcher facing” duties, with diverse responsibilities across Applications, System Administration, User Support, High-performance Computing, Research Data Management, Networking, Cloud Computing, and Cybersecurity. The Cyberinfrastructure Specialist II is a mid-level RCD position, with responsibility in system engineering and researcher support. As a mid-level position, the Cyberinfrastructure Specialist II will have some specialized expertise in certain technologies, while having a broad set of skills and responsibilities across RTS services. This position plays a crucial role in designing technology solutions to support researchers and supports senior engineers in troubleshooting, architecting, and optimizing research cyberinfrastructure, with some leadership of certain services. Collaboration across the Cyberinfrastructure Team is central to this role, involving active participation in supporting new initiatives, architecting solutions, and managing existing applications. Responsibilities encompass providing system administration support, user training, ensuring High-Performance Computing (HPC) service delivery, and enforcing security compliance standards to uphold a secure and efficient cyber infrastructure. The Cyberinfrastructure Specialist II serves as a key liaison between fundamental and advanced infrastructure components. The role is versatile, capable of seamlessly transitioning between user support responsibilities and contributing to the implementation and architecture of innovative solutions. Moreover, the Cyberinfrastructure Specialist II is expected to contribute substantially to solution design discussions within the Research Technology Services (RTS) and engage collaboratively with other University Technical Teams. Understanding and addressing the needs and requirements of research staff is imperative. While the areas of focus are comprehensive, the Cyberinfrastructure Specialist II is encouraged to gain advanced knowledge and specialization in one or more of the listed domains. As a leader in these areas within the RTS, the specialist should actively contribute to the support and adoption of new technologies within the Research Technology Services team. Minimum Qualifications: | Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. |

This position can be based out of the Foggy Bottom, DC or Ashburn, VA campus locations. Travel between campus locations will be required. |
