Responsibilities

Under general direction of the Director of Grounds, Custodial and Events, the Custodial and Events Manager, manages a group of employees consisting of Custodians and Lead Custodians, and is responsible for all aspects of campus-wide daytime custodial services. The incumbent is also responsible for all aspects of PPM’s support of internal, external, and campus events and for cost estimating PPM support charges, scheduling PPM staff support, following up on service provision, and preparing billing/chargeback information for campus wide events both internal to the campus and with external organizations, groups, individuals, and vendors.

  • Acts as liaison and committee member on all commencements, special ceremonies, athletic events, and student related events interacting with various departments on campus to provide advisement and support.
  • Evaluates the performance of subordinates, counsels subordinates on job performance, attendance, adherence to rules and regulations, and performs corrective action when needed.
  • Participates in regular campus event planning meetings as well as special event meetings, monitors event lists/emails for event related requests for information, and investigates impacts, feasibility and potential conflicts, makes recommendations, and responds as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in a job-related field.
  • Equivalent to two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in a management or supervisory role in a custodial field; three to five years preferred.
  • Four-year academic requirement may be substituted for a combination of supervisory experience, formal training, professional credentialing, and certifications (i.e. CMI, APPA Institute or Supervisor Toolkit, CEFP, EFP, FMP, or CFM).
  • LICENSE: CANDIDATE MUST POSSESS A VALID CALIFORNIA DRIVER’S LICENSE.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Leadership

  • Demonstrated experience in event planning/management, strong verbal and written communication skills, and excellent time management and customer service skills.
  • Understanding of custodial, grounds and trades functions in the execution of event support.
  • Ability to: oversee and/or train others and provide lead work direction; interpret, and apply a wide variety of policies and procedures to develop conclusions and make recommendations. Lead diverse teams to support the operational mission and vision of employers by fostering an ethical, inclusive and collegial work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to support ongoing improvement through courageous, resilient, and catalytic leadership.
  • Lead varying initiatives through a collaborative, service-oriented and communicative approach.
  • Demonstrated commitment to employee development, recognition, and accountability to further operational goals.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • Salary is commensurate with knowledge, skills, and experience. The University offers excellent fringe benefits.
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $64,008 - $70,008 annually, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
  • Full Time: 40 hours per week; 8:00-5:00, Monday through Friday. May include some evenings and weekends.
  • The individual hired for this role will physically work on-campus in Northridge. This is not a telecommute position.
