Position Summary 

At Stony Brook Medicine, a CTS In-service Educator is a valuable member of our team. The purpose of this position is to prepare curriculum and teach classes for all levels in the Division of Nursing, including but not limited to Nursing Orientation, ICR and Critical Care courses. 

The primary goals of all training programs are to: provide instruction that will contribute to competency of the nursing staff, will meet regulatory requirements, and promote professional growth. Qualified candidates will demonstrate superior communication, prioritization and organizational skills while adhering to the department’s high standard of excellence.


 

Duties of the CTS In-service Educator may include the following but are not limited to: 

  • Plans, develops and revises curriculum objectives and content in response to evaluation of learner needs and the need to improve nursing services
  • Maintains current course outlines for selected major instructional programs
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of all instructional programs and revises teaching methods, content and/or facilities as a result
  • Participates in the development and instruction of all levels of nursing personnel orientation, basic skills training and continuing education
  • Participates in the development and instruction of all levels of critical care nursing including EKG interpretation  
  • Assists unit-based educators and head nurses with instructional needs for staff and patient education programs
  • Conducts guided counseling and testing sessions for new personnel
  • Develops new and revised audio-visual teaching aids and method
  • Keeps all training, orientation and continuing education records up-to-date and complete

 
Qualifications 
Required :  
  • Current New York State RN License. 
  • Minimum 5 years clinical experience in acute care nursing. 
  • Master's Degree or currently enrolled in a Master's Program.

Preferred :  

  • Master's Degree in Nursing or enrolled in a Master's Degree program in Nursing
  • Critical Care Nursing experience. 
  • Previous experience as a nurse educator. 
  • ANPD certification. 
  • CCRN certification.

  • Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen*
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s). 

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.  

*The hiring department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as - $96000 - $108000. 

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBUH’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

In addition, all UUP positions have an additional $3,087 for location,
