Position Summary
The full-time, 10-month Counselor provides effective, evidence-based, and culturally responsive mental health services to support the emotional health and general well-being of Elon students. The Counselor functions as a generalist to provide direct clinical services (i.e., initial clinical assessments, individual and group counseling, crisis support, etc.) to address a range of mental health concerns within the counseling center's scope of clinical care. The Counselor is also responsible for providing consultation, outreach and education activities, and care coordination support.

Minimum Required Education and Experience
This position requires a master's degree in clinical counseling, clinical psychology, clinical social work, or related field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience. Qualified candidates must be able to practice counseling in the state of North Carolina upon hire as: 1) an independently licensed mental health professional (i.e., LCMHC, LMFT, LCSW, or Licensed Psychologist), or 2) a limited/provisionally licensed mental health professional under supervision (i.e., associate level).
Preferred Education and Experience
Preferred candidates will have a master's level degree from an accredited program and experience providing direct mental health services (i.e., assessments, therapy, etc.) in a college/university counseling center.
Job Duties
1. Clinical Services and Outreach

  • Provides direct psychological services to university students within a brief therapy model to include, clinical assessments, individual/group/couples counseling, and skill-based training workshops.
  • Provides crisis response through interventions and/or consultations to students, families, and campus partners.
  • Develops and presents educational programs and workshops related to college student mental health.
  • Provides consultation services to university colleagues, students, and community partners.
  • Offers periodic consultation and response to assist in managing crises, including nights and weekends.
  • Maintains accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with legal, ethical, and profession guidelines and Counseling Services policies using the electronic medical record software system (Titanium).
  • Enhances professional and clinical skills through participation in continuing education opportunities.
  • Adheres to all legal and ethical standards of professional practice.

2. General
  • Participates in departmental staff meetings and clinical consultation meetings. Serves on university, divisional, or departmental committees, task forces, and search committees. Support university events, including, but not limited to: Convocations, Commencement, Family Weekend, and events related to Admissions and/or New Student Orientation.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by director in support of the mission, vision, and goals of the department and the University.

Special Instructions to Applicants: Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required for outreach and programming events, crisis management, or response to other situations as requested. Requires serving in back-up on call consultation rotation when needed.
