Job Summary/Basic Functions
The Counselor will join a team of Central Student Services staff servicing both undergraduate and graduate students with support for Financial Aid, Student Accounting, Registration, and other student related needs. The position will provide efficient and timely customer service to all customers, with specific focus on both telephone and in-person traffic. The counselor will be able to communicate clearly and effectively to the customer concerning the university processes. The counselor will also ensure the accurate translation of escalated student concerns while also remaining a participant in the total resolution of any issues.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Experience: One year of related experience required. Experience with customer service in higher education or office setting preferred.
Licensure & Certifications: Certification from a 4-year university or bachelor’s degree required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Provides financial aid, billing, and registration assistance counseling that requires detailed knowledge and familiarity with organizational policies, procedures, applicable laws, and program services available. The position necessitates strong communication and interpersonal, analytical, organizational, problem solving, and public relations skills, and knowledge of student services. The nature of the work provides self- regulation of routine work. Advice and guidance from the supervisor is available as necessary. Incumbent performs a range of regulated tasks, both independently and within a team, with variation in the work pattern. As the primary point of contact for the assigned functional unit, the incumbent will use independent decision making skills to determine training and documentation needs within both the functional unit and Central Services. These responsibilities require high attention to detail and the ability to facilitate collaboration and communication across units.
