Location: Seattle, WASHINGTON
Deadline: Open Until Filled

As a UW employee, you have a unique opportunity to change lives on our campuses, in our state and around the world. UW employees offer their boundless energy, creative problem solving skills and dedication to build stronger minds and a healthier world.

UW faculty and staff also enjoy outstanding benefits, professional growth opportunities and unique resources in an environment noted for diversity, intellectual excitement, artistic pursuits and natural beauty.

The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology: Medical Scientist Training Program has an outstanding opportunity for a Counseling Services Coordinator to join their team.

The goal of the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) at the University of Washington is to inspire, mentor, and train the next generation of outstanding physician scientists. The University of Washington MSTP integrates education in biomedical research with the clinical practice of medicine, leading to combined M.D. and Ph.D. degrees. Its students represent an elite cadre drawn from a highly qualified pool of applicants demonstrating academic promise and a commitment to scientific inquiry and patient care. Our graduates have made important contributions to biomedical research and the practice of medicine. They populate the highest rungs of academic ranks both locally and nationally.

We have strong institutional support via the Office of the Dean of the School of Medicine, the Basic Science Departments, and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (FHCRC). The program is comprised of ~85 students in all phases of physician scientist training.

PhD disciplines most popular with UW MSTP students are genome sciences, neuroscience bioengineering, and molecular and cell biology. Student training is guided by a core faculty of 73 professors, all with NIH-supported research. These core faculty are selected from  >1,000 professors; new faculty are integrated frequently. Students work in laboratories at the UW (on campus, UW Medicine at South Lake Union, and Harborview Medical Center), Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (FHCRC), and Seattle Children’s Research Institute (SCRI).

This individual will assist the administrative director on all activities of a nationally recognized Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP), a combined MD/Ph.D. degree program, with a steady-state of about 85 students in various levels of the Program. These activities span all stages of the 8 year program from recruiting through graduation. This position assists with daily administration of the MSTP office.

The position will require the ability to problem-solve with timely responses and exercise independent judgment within the purview of the position. The MSTP is a fast paced, highly complex program requiring the ability to simultaneously juggle multiple projects with differing deadlines while maintaining a meticulous attention to detail.

This individual will support the administrative and faculty directors in the day-to-day operation of the program. These activities include acting as liaison between students, faculty, staff, programs, departments, schools, colleges, institutions, and funding agencies.
