Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The University of Maryland Extension (UME) at the University of Maryland, College Park, seeks an individual to manage all aspects of the post-award process for grants administration. This is a 12-month full-time exempt staff position. Under general supervision from the Assistant Director of Operations, the coordinator will provide post-award grant management and business administrative services to UME faculty, per university policy and the Sponsor’s requirements. Duties include responsibility for managing and coordinating sponsored grants administration, procurement, budget control, and human resources post-award actions for UME funded grants and programs.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and/or Finance or related field
Experience:
Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in providing post-award management of sponsored grants and programs is required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Completion of the Office of Research Administration and Advancement UM Research Administration Certification, or willingness to obtain within the first year.
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and execute multiple and continuing assignments on an occasional deadline-driven basis.
  • Working knowledge of various University systems.
  • Ability to work independently: interacting effectively and comfortably with internal and external stakeholders
  • Knowledge of and skill in applying generally accepted office practices and procedures with a keen regard for confidentiality and the ability to communicate proficiently (orally and in writing) is essential.
  • Evidence of capacity to build UME Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Respect capacity through Program and Organizational Development Unit.
  • This position is subject to a Criminal History Record Check and a University of Maryland Background check. Employment is contingent upon successful completion and clearance of the Criminal History Record Check.

  • Experience and knowledge of Workday are preferred.
  • Candidates with experience managing funded grants from the beginning to the termination date are highly preferred.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Nature of the Position: This position frequently presents information through vocal and written communication to individuals of various ages, socio-economic, and educational backgrounds.
  • Physical Demands: A routine part of this position’s responsibilities would be to transport materials to and from teaching and event locations, including loading and unloading the vehicle. The employee will frequently lift and/or move items weighing up to 20 pounds. Set-up and teardown of displays, tables, and chairs would be necessary at many teaching sites.
  • Environmental: Team driven, office environment of professional character, competence, and collaboration. Deadline driven in terms of program planning and reporting. This position requires the employee to work outdoors at certain times of the year, especially during the time field research, demonstrations, and meetings are conducted as well as annual county fair. This may occur during very hot and/or inclement weather.
  • Visual Acuity: Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data and presentations.
