The USC Viterbi School of Engineering is recognized for creating new and innovative models of technology development and application that are firmly rooted in real world needs. The mission of the Viterbi School’s Office of Transformative Initiatives (TI) is to identify and realize opportunities at scales that impact Los Angeles and the nation. The TI Office is seeking a coordinator who will report to the Vice Dean for Transformative Initiatives to assist in the daily administration of multiple projects. This new position is full-time with an initial two year fixed-term. 

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Assists in the coordination of a variety of administrative functions which supports the growth of California Defense Ready Electronics and Microdevices Superhub (California DREAMS), an initiative funded by DOD.  Coordinates activities and provides resources to formal collaborators and partners. Manages calendar for translational strategy and workforce development activities, as well as the calendars for the Vice Dean and Project Administrator.

  • Assists in the coordination of the Center for Research in Space Technologies (CREST), including regular distribution of a newsletter; distribution of grant funding opportunities to affiliated faculty; coordination of CREST visitors; and other activities. Manages all aspects of the platforms that relate to publicizing the programs and managing CREST web site. Plans, writes, edits and produces regular newsletters, as well as contributing to the USC Viterbi School of Engineering.

  • Conducts event planning as needed, including communications with invited speakers, guests, and stakeholders.

  • Manages travel planning for the Office of the Vice Dean, including all guests and contractors associated with the Office’s activities.

  • Manages the Office of the Vice Dean. Supervises student workers and administrative operations.

Job duties may be added or modified as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree and 3 years’ experience.

  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communications skills, including the ability to work successfully in a diverse community.

  • Experience with remote communication platforms, such as Zoom, Webex, etc.

  • Experience managing digital newsletter platforms, such as Constant Contact or Mail Chimp.

  • Experience with managing web sites on WordPress and/or other platforms.

  • Experience with remote communication platforms, such as Google Drive, Dropbox, or others.

  • Strong computer skills using MS Office Suite, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. 


Additional Information

Fixed-Term Employment: Employees hired under a fixed-term agreement acknowledge that the university may change the expected end date at any time by providing a one (1) month written notification. Your employment may also end for other reasons consistent with university policy. According to university policy, no severance benefits are paid to employees hired under a fixed term agreement. When you leave, your final paycheck will include pay for days worked, and for accrued and unused vacation. The university does not pay for accrued and unused sick days upon termination.

Job Modality : This is a hybrid position. The Coordinator will be expected to work onsite on the University Park Campus for 1 day per week. The Coordinator may also, on occasion, be asked to work at the USC Tower in Downtown Los Angeles or at the Information Sciences Institute in Marina Del Rey. This position is not eligible for fully remote work.

Salary Range: The hourly rate range for this position is $29.44 - $33.33.
