Organizational Unit Overview
The Division of Student Affairs actively supports the University’s missions of education, research, and service by providing comprehensive programs and service to assist each student in developing intellectually, socially, morally, and culturally. Moreover, the division seeks to contribute to the development of the whole individual by fostering in each student a deeper appreciation of the importance of life-long learning, individual responsibility, and human diversity. Through collaboration, the division provides programs and service that are grounded in theory, assessment, and sound practice.
Campus Recreation and Wellness (CRW) at East Carolina University engages the Pirate Community in diverse recreational and wellness experiences by providing exceptional facilities, programs, and services. CRW manages four flagship facilities, including two indoor and two outdoor locations. Indoor facilities include the Eakin Student Recreation Center, a state of the art 150,000 square foot facility located on ECU’s main campus, and a 30,000-square-foot recreation and wellness center inside the 76,000-square-foot student center ECU’s Health Sciences Campus. The North Recreational Complex, a 129-acre sports complex that includes eight sports fields, a six-acre lake, disc golf course, boathouse, walking/jogging trails, outdoor fitness equipment, sandy beach area, beach volleyball courts, and an Odyssey challenge course and the 18-acre Blount Recreational Sports Complex round out the outdoor facilities. 
Job Duties
The Coordinator of Well-Being position will provide programming and leadership for an innovative, dynamic, and collaborative effort to promote a culture of well-being. This position will work closely with colleagues to develop, coordinate, implement and evaluate world-class well-being experiences and programs. You will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations for various well-being programs and events to the ECU community located on Main Campus, Health Sciences Campus, Coastal Students Institute, and Distance Education. Additionally, you will recruit, onboard, develop, supervise, and evaluate well-being graduate assistants, program assistants, ambassadors, and interns. You will also have the opportunity to instruct one for-credit course in partnership with the College of Health & Human Performance on an as-needed basis each semester. The Coordinator of Well-Being position will report to the Assistant Director of Well-Being.

The position reports to the Assistant Director of Wellness.
Specific duties of the position are as follows:
  • Collaborate and coordinate various well-being programs and events to the ECU community located on Main Campus, Health Sciences Campus, Coastal Students Institute, and Distance Education.
  • Assist in the recruitment, onboarding, development, supervision, and evaluation of well-being graduate assistants, program assistants, coaches, ambassadors, and interns.
  • Instruct one for-credit course in partnership with the College of Health & Human Performance on an as needed basis each semester
  • Plan, develop, promote, and deliver a comprehensive well-being program including educational workshops and sessions, collaborative special events, incentive programs, one-on-one and small group coaching, and campaigns.
  • Evaluate data and provide regular reports on all aspects of the well-being program.
  • Deliver and present on various well-being related topics including but not limited to alcohol and other drugs, sexual health and healthy relationships, nutrition and body image, mental health and stress management, and movement and exercise to constituents both on and off campus.
  • Assist and advise in the programmatic development of peer health and well-being groups on campus.
  • Serve on a work team or as a project manager to one or more well-being related events and programs (i.e. Fresh Check Day, Peace.Love.Pirates.Cure, Pledge Purple, Pleasure Principle, My Pirate Body, 4 What’s Next, American Heart Walk, Pirates Versus Cancer, etc)
  • Research, create, and copywrite well-being related content for digital and print media.
  • Seek out and participate in personal and professional continuing education opportunities such as memberships, conferences, workshops, and reading. Must maintain certifications.
  • Assist with marketing, assessment, risk management, and technology.
  • Work in close cooperation with multi-disciplinary staff within CRW, Student Affairs and the campus community.
  • Attend meetings and participate in workshops held by various units in Student Affairs.
  • Serve on various committees as assigned.
  • Actively seek out and/or create innovative methods to introduce well-being to the campus community.
  •  Support campus and division wide events through active participation and/or planning of events hosted by Student Affairs.
  • Flexible schedule of non-traditional work hours is expected.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education/Experience
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Education, Health Promotion, or related field.
  • One year of experience with well-being program planning and implementation (This may include internship or graduate assistantship)
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and supervise others.
  • Demonstrated ability for clear, cogent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required (or must obtain within 60 days of hire).
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Education, Health Promotion or related field.
  • Accredited Health Coaching certification or the willingness to obtain within one year hire.
  • Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES).
  • Experience with more than one of the following: health/well-being coaching, well-being screening, program assessment, public speaking.
  • Two or more years’ experience teaching or working with others in a supervising capacity.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid Instructor certification
