General Statement
The Coordinator of Statistical Resources has the responsibility to evaluate requests for statistical consulting and refer those to either the STAT 510 Statistical Consulting course, to a Statistics faculty member for collaboration or to work with a graduate student, to refer to other MSU Core services, or to refer to outside statistical resources, such as those available through MSU’s partnership with the Institute of Translational Health Services. This arrangement will allow for ongoing statistical support where MSU researchers need it. Reporting to the Head of the Department of Mathematical Sciences, the Coordinator will provide a conduit between campus researchers from a variety of disciplines and statistical resources available. The Coordinator will stay current of MSU’s resources, recognizing that they may change frequently as faculty expertise shifts and as grant-funded resources come on- or off-line.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop or adapt a statistical resource intake system.
  • Evaluate requests for statistical consulting and refer those to either the STAT 510 Statistical Consulting course, to a Statistics faculty member for collaboration or to work with a graduate student, to other resources available within MSU, or to refer to outside statistical resources, such as those available through our partnership with the Institute of Translational Health Services.
  • Remain abreast of statistical consulting resources available to MSU faculty and students.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Master’s Degree in Statistics or a related field
  • 2 years of experience as a statistical consultant
  • Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Ph.D. Degree in Statistics or a related field
  • 4 or more years of experience as a statistical consultant
  • Experience working in MSU’s statistical resource environment
  • The Successful Candidate Will
    • Have competence organizing and prioritizing multiple work assignments with a high degree of accuracy and close attention to detail while meeting deadlines and exercising sound judgement and adaptability to changing priorities;
    • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills;
    • Consistently exercise initiative and sound judgement;
    • Have excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills;
    • Work independently in an efficient and organized manner;
    • Represent Mathematical Sciences and its programs to others in a professional and courteous manner.
