Recreation Center: Serves as first point of contact for the recreation facility and playing fields as well as the on-call staff for emergency situations during open hours. Coordinates programs and services that meet the demands of the University community while promoting a healthy lifestyle and ensuring programs are diverse, inclusive, educational, and safe. Hires, schedules, evaluates, and oversees student employees within all Rec programs. Mentors and actively engages student employees one-on-one and in group settings to enhance their learning experiences and enrich recreation program development; addresses conflicts, benchmarks in productivity, or lack of compliance with staff rules that may result in disciplinary action. Provides appropriate feedback and annual evaluation to each student employee. Assists the Assistant Director of Recreation (ADCR) in creating staff training materials for continual learning opportunities as well as conducting monthly staff meetings. Maintains the inventory, schedules, and timelines for each specialty area. Along with the ADCR, assesses and evaluates recreational program needs and trends of students and other participants by ensuring programming is current in relation to data gained from associations, conferences, external research, and tracking of internal data via the CI Dashboard. Coordinates and oversees marketing, promotions, social media management, and long-term implementation of purposeful programs. Collaborates with other campus programs and departments to garner interest for all Campus Recreation programs. Collaborates with division colleagues in the development, implementation, and assessment of all policies and procedures as it applies to Campus Recreation.

Fitness & Personal Training: With the ADCR, hires, trains, and evaluates student fitness instructors and personal trainers; maintains proof of current certifications and class participation data. Develops class schedules, descriptions, and reserves spaces. Stays current on fitness and training trends and best practices.

Sports Clubs: Assists the ADCR in the administrative management and activity oversight of student officers and accompanying students in Sports Clubs (SC). Advises and trains appointed officers on California State University Chancellor’s Office (CO) student organization procedures and university rules with an emphasis on finance, student travel, event submission, and risk management. Schedules, creates content, and assists the ADCR in monthly SC council meetings and SC workshops. Meets with officers to mediate member or officer conflicts and find solutions to create inclusive outlets for students. Provides day-to-day oversight of SC budget and provides input on budgetary needs to management. Reviews all SC travel and event submission requests for adherence to CO and CSUCI rules, general risk management, and liability issues. Trains Campus Recreation student employees to process SC travel and purchasing paperwork. Inputs all 25Live requests for SC practices, home games, and events on campus. Works with the ADCR to coordinate independently contracted athletic trainers and officials where applicable for all home competitions and ensures that all playing fields are safe for gameplay. Processes paperwork for volunteer coaches. Verifies that all student safety officers are trained in emergency procedures including documenting proof of first aid certificates and other relevant certifications. Responsible for inspecting sports equipment, inventory of sports equipment and supplies, and reporting maintenance needs of equipment and facilities.

Intramural Sports: Responsible for the evaluation, scheduling, marketing, registration, and implementation of the Intramural Sports program. Stays current with National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) programs, trends, and best practices. Assists with the hiring and training of all Intramural Sports (IM) student officials and supervises in the facilitation of events, sports-specific rules, injury reporting and protocols, and conflict management. Collaborates with the IM student employees to create game schedules, apply rules, post scores, and facilitate events. Hosts captain’s meetings and communicates with captains about changes to schedules. Uses CI Dashboard to track and analyze data to make informed decisions.

Assists with boating programs, watersports summer camp, and outdoor adventure program when needed. Performs additional related duties as assigned.
