Brief Summary of Work for this position:


The Coordinator of Peer Education is part of a team working to create a comprehensive focus on health and well-being for UNCW students. This position is responsible for overseeing the peer education program including the recruitment, training, mentorship, supervision, evaluation, and retention of the Health Promotion peer educators. 
This position will oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs on a variety of health and wellness topics, including alcohol and other drugs, nutrition, sexual health, sleep, and stress. This position includes presenting educational programs, serving as a consultant to others on health-related topics as needed, and serving as an active member of the campus well-being initiative.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:


Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience :

  • A master's degree in health education, Public or Community Health, or a related field is preferred.
  • CHES or MCHES certification is preferred.
  • Three or more years of experience supervising student employees or peer educators is preferred.
  • Experience with marketing, especially through social media, is preferred.
  • Current working knowledge of current health issues affecting college students.
  • Experience developing and delivering educational programs on a variety of health-related issues.
  • At least one year of experience supervising students, student employees, or others.
  • Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple priorities at once.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with students, staff, faculty, families, and local partners, with a focus on confidentiality.

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:


The mission of the Abrons Student Health Center (SHC ) is to provide student-centered, affordable, quality health and preventive care to UNCW students. The SHC provides comprehensive medical services, a retail pharmacy, health education, and intervention services. The Health Center's goal is to help students stay as healthy as possible so that they can fully engage in and out of the classroom.
As a part of the SHC, Health Promotion serves as the campus resource for information on a variety of health and wellness topics, including alcohol and other drugs, nutrition, sexual health, sleep, and stress. Services and educational programming are provided to increase students' knowledge and commitment to personal health and well-being. The office also provides educational programs for the campus conduct system and coordinates the collegiate recovery community.
