A crucial position for increasing awareness, support, and resources for students with disabilities and providing for access, equity, and overall student success. Reporting directly to the Associate Dean of Inclusion & Belonging, the coordinator oversees the provision of accommodations and the development of accessibility on campus to shape a truly inclusive and equitable learning and living environment. The coordinator serves as a resource to university campus departments on key issues faced by students with disabilities as well as first-generation students, both inside and outside the classroom. The coordinator develops programs and services within the Office of Inclusion & Belonging in support of its mission.

Salary: $44,000 - $55,000/year

Duties:

Accessibility & Accommodations

·         Coordinates provision of accommodations and services to students with disabilities, including intake, documentation review, student consultation, approval processes, and faculty and staff notification

·         Manages the day-to-day operation of the testing center, providing students an equitable opportunity and environment to take exams regardless of disability

·         Communicates sensitively and effectively with all stakeholders, including students with disabilities, families, referral sources, healthcare providers, faculty, staff, and contracted employees

·         Leads the campus in the implementation of policies, procedures, and services consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973

·         Liaises with Disability Resources and Services (DRS) and Office for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (OEDI) on the Pittsburgh campus for support in the coordination of services and resources

·         Provides integrative programming to support the inclusion of students with disabilities and foster a sense of belonging 

·         Educates the broader campus community through outreach and programming on the needs and experiences of students with disabilities and increases knowledge and implementation of universal design and accessibility on campus

Advocacy and Support for Equity

·         Advises a student organization related to the promotion of the awareness of disabilities, accessibility, or equity

·         Coordinates mentorship programs for students with disabilities and first-generation students

·         Leads the development of first-generation student programming, awareness, and supports

·         Collaborates with the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs on individual case management and addressing students’ basic needs

Inclusion & Belonging Programming

·         Leads the development and implementation of accessibility and equity programming

·         Assists in the implementation of Office of Inclusion & Belonging programming

·         Assists in advisement and support of multicultural and identity-based student organizations

Job Summary

Supports staff, faculty and students with disabilities by facilitating intake interviews, implementing reasonable accommodations, and working to ensure institutional compliance. Maintains knowledge of and advises on community and campus resources.


Essential Functions 

-Teach, counsel, and train students. -Read and write effectively at a post-secondary level. -Communicate with students, with verbal and non-verbal levels of observation. -Use word processing & computer hardware & operate job-related software & other technology.


Physical Effort 

-Physical effort is minimal. -Mobility to negotiate the campus is essential.
