Position Summary

Coordinate the appointment schedules for the Graduate Periodontal Program to assure quality, efficient, patient-centered care. Ensure timely treatment of the patient with productive use of facilities, maximizing the efficient use of faculty, and graduate student providers’ time.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


Position Accountabilities 

  • Assign patients to the periodontal residents ensuring an equitable distribution of clinical experiences.
  • Schedule and confirm patient appointments for the Graduate Periodontic program and provide assistance in monitoring the timeliness of patient care.
  • Manage department telephone; retrieve messages and respond in a timely manner. 
  • Confirm that documentation is completed accurately including registration, consultations and treatment plans prior to patient appointment. 
  • Work with referral sources to ensure that patients are aware of treatment policies and procedures at the School of Dentistry Department of Periodontics. 
  • Discuss and have patients sign the treatment plan assuring they are knowledgeable about payment responsibilities prior to treatment date and prepared to pay for treatment at the time services are rendered. 
  • Monitor patient accounts conferring with residents to ensure that patient financial obligations are being met. 
  • Act as a liaison for patients assuring that care is being rendered in a timely, efficient and professional manner. Mediate and resolve any patient concerns in conjunction with Graduate Program Director, Attending Faculty, and Clinic Manager. 
  • Communicate with the Dental Assistants and the Implant Coordinator to ensure that necessary materials and supplies are available prior to implant surgery. 
  • Monitor and provide information regarding the clinical activity of each resident as necessary or requested. 
  • Review each residents personal planner weekly to assure all treatment and notes are approved by Attending Faculty and treatment is recorded as completed properly to assure timely billing procedures. 
  • Assist with resident check out procedures upon graduation as directed. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

  • Requirements


    Minimum Qualifications

    • High School Diploma/Equivalent 
    • 2 years minimum Dental Assisting/Dental Hygiene experience in a General Dental or Periodontic practice.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree preferred. 
    • Knowledge of and experience in assisting in implant and periodontal surgery procedures.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Qualified candidate must have exceptional customer service skills, strong verbal and written communication skills; effective problem solving skills, and strong organizational skills. 
    • Must be knowledgeable of dental terminology and dental procedures. 
    • Must be comfortable and competent working within a diverse population with the ability to work independently and within a team. 
    • Individual must be competent using a PC. Must be competent using Microsoft Word.

    Physical Requirements

    Must have manual dexterity to use a keyboard and the ability to move freely throughout the clinic.


    Work Environment

    Standard dental office environment with high traffic volume within an educational setting.


    Salary/Pay Information

    Commensurate with experience


    Anticipated Schedule

    Monday through Friday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
