Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering A. James Clark School of Engineering, University of Maryland is seeking an Engineering Operations Coordinator. Under general supervision, this position will perform various tasks in the Electrical & Computer Engineering teaching and research laboratories including: Developing laboratory experiments, preparing facilities, experimental equipment and devices; Creating and maintaining digital profile for all laboratory courses to document required equipment, part and consumables and maintenance of the same; train all laboratory personnel, teaching assistants and staff in proper and safe use of all equipment; Assist in safety compliance for all aspects of the Department; and work with Director of Technical Operations on various programs that will enhance the student experience.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree required.
Experience
A minimum of four years are required in the following areas:
  • Project management experience, with demonstrated success in starting programs involving multiple constituent groups.
  • Experience in a laboratory setting using test & measurement equipment (may consist partially of education experience).
  • Safety management or personnel safety training, either in laboratory setting or in compliance including the areas in high voltage, laser safety and understanding of electrical and fire safety codes.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficiency in Matlab, and Verilog as well as two or more of the following engineering software package/platforms: PSpice, Eagle CAD, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of the operation of FPGA technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

  • Experience in a University setting.
  • Experience conducting formal training in a technical field and/or safety compliance.
  • Knowledge of UMCP operations and available resources.
  • Proficiency in either C, C++ or Python programming languages.

Physical Demands
  • This position will require the oversight and management of facilities in more than one research laboratory in the Institute.
  • The position does not involve any unusual environmental conditions or physical activities beyond the normal safety protocols observed in research laboratories, educational facilities and construction/renovation projects.
