Position Details

The Center for Teaching and Learning at The University of Tampa has a First-Year Studies (FYS) Instructional Staff position, Coordinator of First-Year Community Engagement. The First-Year Studies Program is designed to help students transition to college and make the best academic, co-curricular, and social choices while acquiring the skills needed to excel in their chosen area of interest. FYS achieves this goal through a required full year-long first-year-studies course designed to help students (a) build a connection with each other, faculty, and peer mentors; (b) connect with the on-campus community; and (c) connect with the surrounding Tampa community. All students entering UT are required to take a first-year studies course.

FYS helps students build connections with their faculty, fellow students, and the campus and local communities through out-of-classroom experiences that fulfill the Spartan Ready Competencies. Effective out-of-classroom experiences are a successful way to facilitate all three parts of this goal. The Coordinator of First-Year Community Engagement is a dynamic individual who can build community connections and manage the logistics for OCEs (out-of-classroom experiences) for the faculty and staff members teaching in the program. In addition, this individual will teach four sections of the one-credit FYS course (two-semester sequence) and will provide additional support to identified student populations that span across sections.
