Recreational Sports is a critical part of supporting student well-being and is a primary entry point at Indiana University Bloomington for supporting students in their health and wellness. Recreational Sports' mission is to connect, inform, and inspire people to lead an active, healthy lifestyle. We serve over 36,000 students, faculty, staff, and public participants annually. Our team consists of 46 appointed staff members, and over 800 part-time student staff members. The Coordinator of Club Sports supervises assigned aspects of the Club Sports program within the Recreational Sports department for the students, faculty, and staff of Indiana University, Bloomington. This position includes the supervision of 1-2 program assistants, 5 student-led committees with 30-40 volunteer student members, 50+ faculty/staff volunteer advisors and coaches, and over 200 student leaders from 39 club sports and counting. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Club Sports.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Oversee club sports practicing and competing at various locations on campus including Evan Williams Field (EWF), Bill Garrett Fieldhouse (BGF), Student Recreational Sports Center (SRSC), Woodlawn Fields, and the Recreational Sports Field Complex (RSFC).
  • Oversee 40-48 clubs within the Club Sport Programs (over 2,000 students and community members).
  • Facilitate the proper processes for the accounts of the program, including allocating the $99,700 Club Sports operating budget to individual clubs.
  • Coordinate and monitor facility reservations for club sports competitions and practices (over 200 hours per week). 
  • Handle all Club disciplinary incidents concerning Club Sports, Division, and University policies and related appeals.
  • Conduct and coordinate Club Sport Leadership Workshops.
  • Provide security and oversight of the on-campus equipment inventory for the Club Sports program. Follow university guidelines, including research, for new purchases.
  • Use assessment results to inform future program planning and recommend new programs and policies.
  • Recommend hiring, and train, supervise, mentor, discipline, and evaluate 1-2 program assistants.
  • Create training curriculum and provide oversight and guidance to over 200 student volunteer officers, 40+ faculty staff advisors, and 10+ coaches.
  • Maintain Club Sports Federation Manual with periodic reviews of University Counsel and Risk Management.
  • Monitor risk management policies for clubs including annual activation requirements (responsibility forms, travel requirements, officer trainings).
  • Collaborate effectively with Marketing, Information Technology, Facility Support, Business Affairs, Member Services, Programming, and Research areas within Recreational Sports to achieve priority goals.
  • Recognize club and individual student accomplishments throughout the year featured at the Student Recreational Sports Association (SRSA) Annual banquet.
  • Participate in annual development of program and unit goals and objectives; prepare semester and annual reports to document achievements, needs and recommendations that shape ongoing planning.
  • Assist with department-wide special events and provide night/weekend/break coverage as part of professional staff rotation.
  • Keep next-level leader(s) informed of trends as well as significant problems.

General Responsibilities

  • Evaluate recreation areas, equipment, facilities, and services to determine if they are producing desired results.
  • Direct the design, implementation, evaluation, and expansion of recreational programming.
  • Recruit, hire, supervise, evaluate, and coordinate the work activities of employees.
  • Ensure compliance by implementing the established risk management plan, monitoring and training, and conducting inspections of facilities and equipment.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Recreation, Sports Management, or related field

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 2 years related experience with structured recreational programming

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Required

  • CPR/AED within 180 days upon date of hire 
  • Standard First Aid within 180 days upon date of hire
  • Preventing Disease Transmission/Universal Precautions within 180 days upon date of hire

This position requires both sedentary work and long durations of movement about the workspace. It requires the ability to move and transport objects and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential tasks with or without an accommodation.

$45,000-$55,000 dependent upon qualifications and experience
