Job Summary

This position serves as the post-award administration supervisor for the SOH Finance Unit, an administrative support unit for financial and business operations for the Office of the Dean for the School of Medicine and FOA administration. This position supervises a variety of staff who are responsible for Grant/Contract post-award administration functions as well as provides analysis and management of a diverse portfolio of established and new accounts. In this role, the incumbent will directly supervise the cluster analysts responsible for providing post-award administration across SOM departments. This includes working directly with multiple SOM department managers, PI’s and staff on diverse portfolios pertaining to contract/grants. The individual will exercise initiative, originality, and judgment in applying established principles and practices to new and unusual fiscal management situations. Incumbent will formulate strategies requiring original thinking and innovation due to widespread changes in financial operations. The appointee must possess extensive knowledge on fiscal policy regarding financial operations specifically relating to multifaceted sponsored research awards, gifts, endowments, and contract accounts. The SOH Finance Unit is responsible for annual operating budgets more than $100M, extramural grant and contract funds totaling more $80M. Incumbent is responsible for recruitment, training, development, evaluation, and delegation of workflow to maximize operational efficiency. Ensure individuals know and adhere to university policy and procedure related to their assignments. The incumbent will exercise initiative, originality, and judgment in applying established principles and practices to fiscal management of all programs supported. Working directly with the principal investigators for the grants managed through the SOH Finance Unit, the incumbent will ensure compliance with all grant requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Applicants are encouraged to upload license and certification if required of the position.
  • Possess the Certified Research Administrator certificate or similar certification.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Demonstrated several years of administrative and cost accounting experience with all types of award mechanisms, including grants, contracts, subcontracts, and cooperative agreements.
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with post-award administration, reporting, close-outs
  • Knowledge and demonstrated understanding of the compliance and sponsor policies related to research administration.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated understanding of federal, state, and non-profit sponsor regulations, policies, requirements, procedures, and areas of interest.
  • Knowledge of current compliance regulations in all areas of research administration, knowledge and skills to interpret and apply sponsor, institutional and departmental policies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of UC Davis contract and grant procedures
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Federal Acquisition Regulation, Code of Federal Regulations, sponsor-specific policies, intellectual property policy, conflict of interest requirements, publication rights, application of indirect cost rates and other complex concepts in research administration.
  • Knowledge of Decision Support, Cognos Reports, effort reporting, cost-share tracking and Kuali processes
