Contract Analyst
Sponsored Projects Administration
Location:  New Orleans, LA
Summary
The Contract Analyst will review, negotiate, and draft agreements for complex industry-sponsored projects for several academic departments, perform a continuing review of existing agreements, assure the ongoing integrity of the contract tracking and assist in the ongoing development of policies and procedures to address contractual issues and regulatory and policy changes. The Contract Analyst will also apply relevant contract law, Federal, State, and local laws, guidance documents, health care policy, Institutional and departmental policies and procedures to: (1) protect the rights, safety and welfare of research participants, (2) protect the academic integrity of the Institution; (3) safeguard against any unnecessary risks; and (4) protect the interests of the scientists involved in research.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Possess exceptional oral and written communication skills in order to effectively communicate with a wide range of faculty and staff and to negotiate with industry legal and business personnel. 
• Maturity and judgment are required to handle highly sensitive negotiations within the context of legal constraints, 
• Highly proficient analytical skills; demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret complex contractual agreements.
• Demonstrated understanding of issues that pertain to industry-sponsored research
o the role of confidential information and how it affects Tulane’s rights to publish research findings;
o intellectual property;
o financial implications of payment terms 
o liability issues
• Proficient computer skills; ability to use the internet effectively and various word processing, spreadsheet and database software such as Word, Excel and Access.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Working knowledge of federal regulations related to research.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality in all work performed.
Required Education and/or Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree and 3 years grants and contracts administration and/or clinical research administration experience 
OR 
• High School Diploma/Equivalent and 9 years grants and contracts administration and/or clinical research administration experience
Preferred Qualifications
• Master's Degree, preferably in science, engineering, business, or law.
• Experience in a medical research environment, Institutional Review Board and federal regulations related to human subjects’ research.
• Knowledge of contract law and a demonstrable record of complex and successful contract negotiations.
• Demonstrated ability to draft, negotiate, and conclude research agreements. 
• Legal background is a plus.
Compensation Information
This position is classified as "exempt, salaried" and is assigned to pay grade 26.
