Construction and Space Optimization Coordinator

The BYU Department of Physics and Astronomy is undergoing rapid change with the announcement of the Eyring Science Center Laboratory addition and potential remodel of departmental spaces. If you're excited to help a BYU academic department become an Everest of Education, then this time-sensitive position is for you. You will assist us in determining department needs for the future as you navigate the bottlenecks of concurrent construction projects impacting research and teaching during the much of the academic year. What you¿ll do in this position: 

  • Coordinate communication between all project, design and construction personnel (internal and external to BYU)
  • Maintain long-term department calendar of teaching and research activities that impact construction timelines and coordinate with construction/project personnel
  • Gather information on department needs for a potential remodel
  • Assist with analyzing department space utilization and lead space optimization plan by coordinating cleanup of select rooms and laboratories to surplus/dispose of outdated equipment

 

What qualifies you for this role:

Required

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU 
  • at least one year of office, project, and/or construction experience

 

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree and minimum two years of previous project and construction management experience
  • Experience with and understanding of BYU policies and procedures

 

Skills

  • Excellent public relations and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Strong organizational, time and space management skills
  • Good personal skills - punctual, dependable, able to follow directions, accurate, helpful, detail-oriented
  • Strong computer skills, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Willingness and ability to learn in-house software systems
  • Ability to keep several projects moving forward at the same time and meet time-sensitive deadlines
  • Ability to work as a team member and independently
