Job Summary
 
The Construction Practices Laboratory at the School of Construction and Design is seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual to fill the position of Construction Practices Laboratory Supervisor. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the day-to-day operations of the laboratory, ensuring the smooth functioning of equipment, collaborating with faculty on lab work development, and prioritizing safety protocols during student interactions. The lab supervisor will also be involved in on- and off-campus outreach activities, hosting K-12 and community college students, and promoting the construction profession.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Works closely with faculty to develop and conduct lab work for students and supports academic instruction and faculty research efforts as needed.
  • Regularly inspects, maintains, and troubleshoots laboratory equipment and coordinates with vendors for repairs and upgrades when necessary.
  • Implements and enforces safety procedures in the laboratory; trains and educates students on safety protocols and equipment usage; responds promptly to any safety concerns or incidents.
  • Participates in outreach activities to promote the School of Construction and Design and host tours and presentations for prospective students and industry partners.
  • Collaborates with the community to enhance the visibility of the laboratory and develops engaging activities and demonstrations to spark interest in construction practices.

  • Minimum Qualifications  
    High school degree with a minimum of five years of construction trades experience (including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc.) or equivalent combination of education and construction experience. Strong knowledge of construction practices and laboratory procedures.

    • Ability to travel for outreach activities and complete overnight stays.

     


    Preferred Qualifications  
    Previous experience in a similar role, preferably in an academic or research setting. Certification in construction trades (i.e., Master Welder, Master Electrician, etc.), or any construction trades training certification, such as The National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). OSHA 10 or 30 card.
