Construction Assistant - Facilities Services 

MR04 – Starting rate dependent on candidates’ qualifications and experience

The Facilities Services Department is responsible for the maintenance and operations of all campus facilities which includes buildings, grounds, and utility systems. Under direct supervision, the Construction Assistant will assist with any duties related to Carpentry or Electrical related projects.

Duties, skills and abilities:

The Construction Assistant will, under general supervision, perform commercial construction work in the repair, renovation, alteration, forming, framing and finishing of campus buildings and facilities. Assists with general electrical work on electrical systems and in facilities. Disassembles, cleans, repairs and reassembles electrical appliances and equipment by following established procedures. Uses tools and operates woodworking machines to perform other related duties.

Work primarily with carpenters or electricians performing all related duties.  Duties may include, but not limited to; bending conduit, hanging sheetrock or plywood, constructing walls, moving materials, demolition, and clean-up of work area.

Performs other duties as required.

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum/Required Qualifications:

 

This is any entry level position.  No experience necessary.

Valid Tennessee Driver’s License

High School Diploma or GED (vocational or technical training preferred)

Knowledge of safe working practices; ability to follow instructions

Ability to learn basic and specialized tools, should have some knowledge of proper hand tool use

Ability to perform heavy lifting and do physical labor; ability to lift 40 pounds with no assistance and be able to perform moderately strenuous work activities

Ability to lift, climb and work at varying heights

Should have some knowledge of proper ladder use
