Position Summary
The School of Engineering & Technology at Central Michigan University (CMU) seeks an experienced and dynamic individual for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor position in the Computer Engineering program. We are particularly interested in candidates with plans to conduct research in areas that contribute to hardware and software solutions for alternative energy systems (including electric vehicle systems, hydrogen energy systems, and wind energy systems). Other research focus areas in Computer and/or Electrical Engineering are welcome to apply. The appointment will begin in the fall semester of 2024.
Responsibilities:
  • Establish a vigorous, externally funded research program independently or in collaboration with existing faculty. Publish scholarship in competitive refereed journals. These duties include applying for external funding to support teaching, research and professional service and supervising undergraduate and graduate student research.
  • Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses and laboratories in Computer Engineering.
  • Participate and be actively involved in the Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) program.
  • Be actively engaged in advising, professional development and service activities. Professional activities include participation in meetings/workshops, university/school committee service, editorial and/or organizational support for journals and conferences, and development of appropriate relationships with industry, government, and other relevant entities.
  • Participate in activities related to ABET accreditation of the Computer Engineering program.
  • Advise senior project teams in Computer Engineering-related fields.
Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Computer Engineering or other closely related engineering field; ABD candidates will be considered if degree completion is assured before duties commence.
  • Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communications skills.
  • Demonstrated strong commitment to and potential for research that attracts external funding and leads to publications in competitive peer-reviewed journals.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and teach courses and laboratories in computer engineering.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A research focus on hardware and software solutions for alternative energy systems (including electric vehicle systems, hydrogen energy systems, and wind energy systems). Other research areas will also be considered.
  • An undergraduate degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical & Computer Engineering.
  • Previous teaching experience at the university level.
  • Relevant industrial or government experience.

About the Department
The School of Engineering and Technology (SET) is housed in the College of Science and Engineering (CSE). SET has four undergraduate Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Computer and Environmental Engineering), three undergraduate Engineering Technology (Industrial, Mechanical and Product Design Engineering Technology) and a graduate (MS in Engineering) program. SET presently has 24 full-time faculty members. Courses are taught in an attractive 70,000 square foot engineering & technology building which houses more than twenty laboratories and support spaces.
