OFFICE OF INSTITUTIONAL EQUITY (UA-OIEQ-IUINA)

The Office of Institutional Equity (OIE) furthers the university's commitment to non-discrimination, civil rights, and advancement of equal opportunities in all University programs in accordance with applicable laws and University policy. OIE coordinates federal compliance for hiring and employment; develops and delivers training and education programs throughout the university regarding prevention, equity and compliance; and addresses concerns related to discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct, and retaliation. 

The Equity Specialist will serve several primary functions within the Office of Institutional Equity. The Equity Specialist reports to the Director Compliance, Training, and ADA.  

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Provides assistance to the Director of Compliance, Training, and ADA and the IU community regarding emerging ADA and related issues as appropriate (e.g., COVID-19 guidance, PWFA, Title IX, etc.). 
  • Creates and leads trainings on various topics related to the ADA, Title IX, PWFA, and other legislation to inform IU employees about their reporting and compliance responsibilities at IU. 
  • Uses Canvas (or other Learning Management Systems) to create university wide trainings related to ADA, Title IX, PWFA, and other compliance areas.  
  • Through the university's CRM, monitors the university's progress of compliance trainings and work with stakeholders to increase the university's overall completion rate of mandatory trainings. 
  • Through the university's CRM, produces ad-hoc data reporting and analysis services for investigations, appeal, and decision support. 
  • Assists OIE directors with investigations and appeals related to accommodations and disability, religion, or gender-based discrimination or harassment, such as assisting with initial intake meetings, the investigation process, and report writing

General Responsibilities

  • Prepares formal investigatory reports and/or analyses pursuant to university and campus procedures and internal protocols.
  • Develops and/or presents various communication and/or training programs on behalf of the office to educate in areas of equity, opportunity, and accessibility and to support the university's compliance with training and education requirements found in a variety of laws and regulations pertaining to equal opportunity and discrimination and harassment.
  • Collaborates, advises, and consults with other university departments and offices on equity, opportunity, and accessibility as well as matters pertaining discrimination and harassment.
  • May serve as an experienced analyst, investigator, and consultant in various areas of equity, opportunity, and accessibility through research, assessments, analyses, discussions, and investigations.
  • Oversees and monitors university activities to ensure legal compliance and best practices in areas such as recruitment/hiring; pay equity; ADA accommodations; Title IX, etc.
  • Represents the office on specific university committees, in meetings, and in outreach opportunities as needed by the office.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor's degree. 

Preferred

  • Graduate degree (Master's/PhD). 

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 2 years of experience in compliance, investigatory, or related field.

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

$60,000 - $65,000 per year based on experience.
