Position Highlights The Outreach Professional for the Southwest Center's Forensic Project is tasked with expanding information gathering efforts in the project's first year. Collaborating closely with the project supervisor, the professional will actively contribute to protocol development, focusing on enhancing partnerships and refining data management strategies. Emphasis is placed on establishing and managing partnerships with local and regional government offices, community organizations, and foreign consulates to broaden the project's outreach. Simultaneously, the professional will lead efforts in data collection, meticulous data entry, and the selection of effective data management.

This is an Extended Temporary Employment (ETE) position.

Duties & Responsibilities

Partnership development (30%): Communicating and developing collaborations with project partners. This will include arranging and attending meetings potential partners including UA faculty and programs, county and city government, as well as nonprofit and government programs of a similar nature focused on US-Mexico border issues. It will include follow-up in the form of keeping detailed notes, remaining in touch with project partners, and integrating feedback into project design.

Outreach and Data (40%): Engaging in outreach while collecting forensically relevant data from families of missing migrants and local/regional forensic authorities. The majority of these interactions will take place remotely, leveraging platforms such as Zoom, supplemented by occasional local or regional travel. The comprehensive approach involves not only consolidating forensically pertinent information from various sources into a new database software but also fostering connections during the data collection process. Additionally, the data collection process incorporates data tracking, generating metrics, and producing reports.

Assist in the development of project protocol and coordinate Project Meetings (20%): Meet weekly with the project supervisor to check in on goals, tasks, and project development. will assist the project supervisor in the drafting of a white paper/protocol, to be complete at the end of the year, that details project design, procedures, partners, and policies.

Managing undergraduate student interns (10%): Outreach Professional will work with student interns as available for up to 5 hours per week. This will include monitoring their work as they scan documents, complete data entry tasks, or attend project meetings. 

 

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Bilingual in Spanish
Preferred QualificationsThe successful applicant will have experience in the field of anthropology, preferably in forensic anthropology or forensic archaeology. Ideally, applicants will have prior experience working in the field of forensic human identification, preferably with specific experience working with families of missing persons. Strong applicants will have experience in case management, healthcare, or social work. Especially strong applicants will have experience working with victims of violence, law enforcement agencies.
