Position Highlights

The Community Outreach Assistant II (COAII) will work with the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) assisting the Extension Agent in the continuation and development of programs related to nutrition and recruiting program volunteers primarily in the Douglas area. The COAII will provide limited-resource audiences with knowledge, and skills, promote changes in behavior necessary for nutritionally sound diets, and contribute to their personal development and the improvement of the total family diet and nutritional well-being.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Identify and recruit limited income adults, families and youth by gathering preliminary data and information on potential participants within assigned geographic area to educate using the prescribed curriculum of nutrition education and related disciplines. Create and maintain partnerships with community programs and service providers to build relationships to be able to offer our nutrition education program.
  • Become knowledgeable in prescribed curriculum and materials to be able to plan, deliver and educate program participants in the area of nutrition, healthy living and related disciplines. Present nutrition subject matter to those with limited income, using the approved program curriculum, to educate families and schools throughout Cochise County.
  • Implement pre- and post-assessments for all program participants. Log and monitor participant data and progress through program. Maintain and complete all forms on a regular basis that are required by the University of Arizona.
  • Assist supervisor with establishing contacts with appropriate community resources. Assist and maintain communication with supervisor on participant progress.

  • Ability to establish and maintain partnerships to support nutrition initiatives.
  • Skill in leveraging community resources to enhance program impact and sustainability.
  • Proficiency in following and adapting prescribed nutrition education curricula.
  • Experience in recruiting and engaging participants from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to conduct effective presentations and workshops.
  • Experience working with multicultural communities and respecting cultural preferences.
  • Ability to work with both adults and youth participants.
  • Ability to travel to various locations in Cochise County to deliver EFNEP nutrition classes.
  • Ability to pass a fingerprint background check.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience required.
  • A valid driver’s license with the ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
