Position Summary

UNM-Valencia is seeking a full-time Community Health Worker Lead (CHWL). This position is a grant-funded position within the Pathways to Articulation and Sustainable Opportunities for Students Program (PASOS) with current funding available through 09/30/24. This position will provide comprehensive case management and referrals through a holistic care to address non-academic needs including but not limited to: food insecurity, mental health, transportation, housing and other services. Through a student-centered approach this position will connect students to campus and community resources. This position will work with the PASOS Team, faculty, and staff in assessing and connecting students who have a documented CARE Report (Student Early Alert System used to report student concerns related to academic and non-academic needs to support retention). The CHWL will also work to expand university and community resources for new and stopped out students.
The CHWL will provide their expertise to minimize the impact of mental illness and emotional distress on the academic and personal functioning of students enrolled at UNM-Valencia.

Located about 30 miles south of Albuquerque in rural Valencia County, The University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus is a two-year branch campus of The University of New Mexico which functions as a community college in the region and is designated a Hispanic Serving Institution.  With an emphasis on teaching excellence, Valencia Campus offers academic transfer programs, technical programs, Adult Education, and Dual Credit courses to high schools in Valencia and Socorro Counties.  The faculty and staff serve a student body of over 2,000 students per semester.

Conditions of Employment
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Fingerprinting, and subsequent clearance, may be required for this position depending on assignment.
  • May be required to obtain a Community Support Worker (CSW) certification within six months of hire.
  • May be required to hold a Certified Peer Support Worker (CPSW) certification if acting as a peer support worker.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with undergraduate students in an educational setting
  • Experience in providing comprehensive case management for academic and non-academic needs
  • Experience in organizing, understanding, and connecting students and/or clients tocampus and community resources
  • Experience or knowledge in providing trauma informed programming and services
  • Bilingual English/Spanish (speak, read, and write)
