This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at Moores Cancer Center and remote.

The Moores Cancer Center (MCC) is one of just 54 NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States and the only one in San Diego County. The Community Health Liaison will work with health education programs at the Moores Cancer Center (MCC) to facilitate community health education and outreach efforts and serve as a link between medically underserved communities and programs in San Diego County and potentially Imperial County. With a focus on empowering the community to develop and sustain lifestyle habits to prevent illness, manage chronic diseases and promote health and well-being, responsibilities include: independently manage the scheduling and delivery of one-on-one and group-based health and wellness, coaching sessions within clinical practice and research studies; create and/or revise curriculum for supporting health and wellness education programs, to include developing relevant resources; implement and evaluate educational materials, and supporting education and training programs; maintain appropriate and timely documentation; participate in regular team meetings and peer activities; engage in regular consultation with Senior COE staff to provide updates and develop strategies for optimizing community outreach and engagement in underserved communities.

  • Six years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in related area plus two years of related experience/training.

  • Working knowledge of the health promotion and education field. Knowledge of individual and organizational health interventions, epidemiology, health communications or related field.

  • Skills associated with both the development and delivery of health education programs and services. Experience developing lifestyle medicine-focused content and curriculum with an emphasis in health behavior change.

  • Working knowledge of the design and delivery of related programs. Experience working with health centers and community groups on health education. Background in working with different stakeholders and partner organizations to plan discussion forums around health topics/cancer prevention.

  • Effective interpersonal skills needed to work with a diverse client group. Experience with working as a liaison with a number of different organizations and coalitions.

  • Ability to acquire the requisite skills to analyze, interpret and respond to client needs.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills with strong knowledge and developed practical skill set in evidence-based coaching practices.

  • Skills associated with both the development and delivery of health education programs and services.

  • Effective organizational skills. Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; ability to work as an effective team member within and outside of a clinical setting.

  • Excellent critical-thinking skills and a proven ability to evaluate situations, present pros/cons and make recommendations/decisions.

  • Strong demonstrated skill in writing, editing, spelling and proofreading, including knowledge of proper formats, grammar, structure, and content to develop and deliver presentations, draft educational curriculum, create patient resources, compile reports and craft correspondence independently.

  • Demonstrated skill in using word processing, database, spreadsheet, scheduling, presentation, and web maintenance software, such as Microsoft Office and to prepare reports, letters/memos, spreadsheets, and power point/graphical presentations. Willingness to regularly maintain and update technology skills as required.

  • Demonstrated experience in group facilitation, selecting appropriate format for education, interaction and evaluation criteria.

  • Master’s degree in a health or wellness-related field (e.g., public health, kinesiology, health education, etc.) with a concentration in integrative health or integrative wellness.

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, health education, or related field.

  • Fluency in English and Spanish.

  • Clinical experience and five years of experience.

  • Experience working with Asian, Black, Native American, and/or LGBTQ communities.

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check.

  • Must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

  • Must be willing to travel within CA.

  • Must have reliable transportation and an acceptable driving record.

  • Must have reliable telephone and internet access.


Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $61,800 - $108,000 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $29.60 - $51.72

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
