The Eagle Heights Community Gardens are seeking motivated individuals to contribute to the day-to-day operations for one of the oldest and largest organic community gardens in the U.S.!
From mowing, managing large and small projects, and overseeing groups of garden volunteers during regular work days -- the Eagle Heights Community Gardens are looking for people committed to making the gardens a positive experience for gardeners and visitors alike.

Responsibilities:
Maintains and landscapes lawns, planting beds, fields, and golf course groups. Inspects grounds and courses to ensure conditions meet institutional grounds keeping standards.
  • 20% Installs, propagates, and maintains the health of new and existing plants and landscape using a variety of vehicles and equipment
  • 20% Constructs lawn and landscaping projects including soil grading, seeding, and sodding
  • 10% Identifies and acts to remedy plant diseases and insect damage
  • 30% Maintains clean and clear lawns, walkways, roadways, and parking lots to ensure they are free of debris, litter, snow, and ice
  • 5% Maintains records of community garden
  • 15% Oversees garden work days and manages volunteers

Tasks:
  • Communicates in English with community gardeners, primarily on weekends or during evenings, regarding garden work and safe use of powered and manual equipment
  • Leads work of weekend gardening crews
  • Performs duties in a highly diverse student and family housing community
  • Provides support and assists as needed in the implementation of plans and procedures in the event of an emergency.

- Prior community gardening experience
- Prior experience working with diverse populations


Work Schedule:

This position will work primarily during the garden season (March to November), with occasional opportunities for hours available during the off-garden season.
The schedule is flexible by season and weather, demands of the position, and the availability of the gardeners. Must be available to work most weekends throughout the garden season. The position is approved to work up to 20 hours/week during the garden season.


Work Type:

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.


Appointment Type, Duration:

Terminal appointment.
This position has the possibility to be extended based on need and/or funding.

$17.00 HOURLY
