Job Summary

The Community Engagement Coordinator serves as the UT Tyler Cowan Center advocate to various factions of the community, is responsible for developing the Hearts for the Arts program through funding and execution of service to groups, acts as a liaison to campus venue users, serves as box office personnel and house management for campus and community users, and performs other duties as assigned. Key traits and skills include outreach, customer service, sales, and arts advocacy, as well as excellent computer navigation skills.

This position involves extensive time spent in community and campus outreach, establishing positive relationships, communicating services the Cowan Center provides, and cultivating interest in the Cowan Center. It involves outreach for the Hearts for the Arts program, a program that endeavors to bring the arts to members of the community who might not otherwise have the opportunity, including underprivileged children, seniors, and veterans. The Community Engagement Coordinator is also responsible for outreach to the city, chamber, local service clubs, and arts organizations. In addition, this individual provides customer service in the box office and by providing house management services at events. The Community Engagement Coordinator also assists in administrative functions, including electronic deposits, scheduling in Astra, and email/phone/mail communication. This position also includes supervision of student workers/volunteers at events, management of rentals, and sales.

 

Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks

  • Coordinate box office ticket sales.
  • Assist in ticket administration functions, customer service, phone/mail/on-line sales facilitation.
  • Backup personnel for electronic deposits, administrative functions and payroll forms. 
  • Extreme accuracy in accounting and auditing controls over ticket revenue. 
  • Supervise student staff as needed.
  • Coordinate house management at events.
  • Manage public attendees at events, enforce policies and procedures for campus and public users/renters while establishing a positive relationship and image for the center. 
  • Supervise volunteer staff as needed.
  • Coordinate Hearts for the Arts fund development and group service development.
  • Solicit donations to support tickets for groups to attend events. 
  • Recruit groups/recipients to attend shows and follow up with thank you letters to donors and participants.
  • Act as Cowan Center liaison to UT Tyler campus to improve and establish relationships, communicate services the Cowan Center provides, and create a positive environment/ relationship between Cowan and campus. 
  • Represent the Cowan Center by attending events, making presentations to groups/clubs and general cultivation of interest in the Cowan Center.
  • Act as community advocate to city, chamber, service clubs, arts organizations, etc.

  • Coordinate program advertising sales
  • Retain recurring program advertising buyers and sell advertising for the season program to new buyers.
  • Other duites as assigned.

 

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field.
  • Two (2) years' customer service/outreach or sales experience.

 

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Box Office management experience, outreach experience, performing arts center management experience and/or knowledge of performing arts.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
