About UC Merced |
|
The University of California, Merced, is the newest of the University of California system's 10 campuses and the first American research university built in the 21st century. With more than 9,000 undergraduate and graduate students, UC Merced offers an environment that combines a commitment to diversity, inclusion, collaboration and professional development. With bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programs, strong research and academic partnerships, and community involvement, the UC Merced campus is continually evolving and requires talented, knowledgeable and dynamic educators, researchers, management and staff. Ranked among the best public universities in the nation by U.S. News and World Report, UC Merced is uniquely equipped to provide educational opportunities for highly qualified students from the San Joaquin Valley and throughout California. The campus enjoys a special connection with nearby Yosemite National Park, is on the cutting edge of sustainability in construction and design and supports the economic development of Merced and the region. The Merced 2020 Project, a $1.3 billion public-private partnership unprecedented in higher education and completed in 2020, nearly doubled the physical capacity of the campus, enhancing academic distinction, student success and research excellence. UC Merced also operates the Downtown Campus Center, a $33 million, three-story administrative building located in the heart of Merced. The university’s mission of educational excellence and rigorous inquiry is powered by three schools and numerous research institutes and centers that seek scientific and social solutions for the Valley, California and the world. In partnership with UC San Francisco, UC Merced is preparing the way for a rigorous medical education program. The course of UC Merced’s evolution is piloted by a long-range strategic plan. Enacted in 2021, the 10-year blueprint is guiding how the values of equity and justice influence our pathway to earning Carnegie R1 research status, growing enrollment, upholding our identity as a minority-serving institution, and operationalizing how commitments to equity, diversity and inclusion are enacted in each campus unit. |

About the Job |
|
UC Merced has enjoyed rapid growth and expansion since its founding in 2005 and is now positioning itself to deliver medical education in the Valley. The formal placement of undergraduate medical education in the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor has positioned the program to build a strong infrastructure to create health education and training partnerships/opportunities to train future healthcare providers who will remain and practice in the San Joaquin Valley. One such partnership is the formation of the San Joaquin Valley Program in Medical Education (SJV PRIME), a four-year medical education program, which started in 2011. Building on the early success of the SJV PRIME program, we are now poised to expand the program to an eight-year Baccalaureate/MD program (SJV PRIME+). SJV PRIME+ will leverage the power of three UC campuses (UCSF, UCSF Fresno, and UC Merced) to increase the size and diversity of the physician workforce that will be representative of the community they will serve. The program will recruit, educate, and support future physicians to serve the communities of the San Joaquin Valley. The eight-year program will take place entirely in the San Joaquin Valley with the goal of increasing the likelihood that graduates enter residency programs in the region and remain locally to practice and care for Valley community members. SJV PRIME/+ and the UCM Office of Medical Education (OME) seeks a community engagement coordinator who brings diverse experience in project management and operational program support. The incumbent will perform a wide variety of complex programmatic functions. Responsibilities include but are not limited to creating systems and processes, building, and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders, managing and tracking project goals/milestones, cross-campus coordination and communication, reporting data findings, supporting program improvements, processing expense reimbursements, and procurement. More specifically, the coordinator will work in partnership with the Assistant Director of Inquiry and Community Engagement to: Plan UCM-based curricular needs for SJV PRIME/+ (i.e., ASPIRE, ARISE, and Physician Identity weeks) Set up logistics for program schedules, meetings, and site visits with partners. Explore/identify various outreach opportunities. Manage campus events/activities at UCM and UCSF Fresno. Assist in identifying and matching students with faculty research mentors and schedule faculty for student interactions. Support faculty seminars, including evaluation component. Manage publication of scholarly works. Create research and community engagement systems/processes. Create and maintain written and electronic resources. Provide logistical support for the development of clinical partnerships for student involvement. To be successful, the incumbent will need to demonstrate exceptional communication and organizational skills, project management skills, and experience supporting senior leaders of complex programs with a capacity to execute multiple competing tasks and projects. Key Responsibilities: Analyzes a wide range of educational issues and applies project management principles and practices to achieve results in an academic setting. Participate in the development and execution of efficient and effective systems for managing projects and communications. Respond to changing priorities and/or conflicting deadlines, ensuring accurate and timely completion of tasks/deliverables. Work with matrixed teams of professionals and key stakeholders to deliver effective results for SJV PRIME/+ and OME.
Develops and manages relations with community-university integrated programs, builds and sustains community partnerships requiring extensive independent interface with outside community-based organizations, colleges/universities, and clinics. Identify research opportunities for undergraduate students in the Merced and Fresno surrounding area for SJV PRIME/+ and OME.
Liaise between volunteer sites and SJV PRIME/+ campus partners to fulfill any administrative needs for volunteers (e.g. required onboarding for student volunteers, including online modules or paperwork, etc.).
Plan, execute the logistics, and monitor budgets for program needs and social events and/or educational activities, which may include recruitment, orientation, graduation, conferences, and simulation and/or other assessment activities.
