Recreation and Wellbeing enriches the University of Idaho learning experience by fostering connection and a lifelong appreciation for recreation, health and wellness through premier programs, services, facilities, advocacy and collaborative initiatives. Programs within Recreation and Wellbeing include the Student Rec Center, Intramural and Club Sports, Fitness, Outdoor Programs – including the Climbing Center and Rental Center, Youth Programs, Vandal Health Education and the Spirit Squad. This position works with department programming areas and stakeholders to promote recreation, health and wellbeing services and programs to enhance student success and wellbeing.
Position Overview
The position ensures effective internal and external communication, branding and messaging by leading and collaborating on communication efforts within the unit and across campus. This position advances the reputation of the University of Idaho, Student Affairs and Recreation and Wellbeing through purposeful and creative messaging that is tied to strategic initiatives and builds campus wide and public understanding and support for the teaching and research mission of the unit(s) specifically, as well as the University of Idaho in general. The position will work in a collaborative environment with team members and University Communications and Marketing to create impactful communications.
Duties may include:
  • Designing, writing and editing a variety of content in digital and print formats
  • Maintaining the department’s website, social media presence, and online communications; collaborate on data collection for a variety of reports
  • Assisting with day-to-day office operations
  • Providing consultation and writing support to department leadership
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications


Required Experience
  • One year of communications, marketing, graphic design, journalism, or public relations experience
  • Editing and writing business correspondence using proper grammar and punctuation as demonstrated in application materials
  • Working in customer service-oriented team environment to accomplish shared goals
  • Handling a variety of projects simultaneously that requires attention to details
Required Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Graphic Design, Journalism, or Public Relations; four additional years of experience (for a total of five) may substitute for a Bachelor’s Degree
Required Other
  • Ability to work nonstandard business hours and occasionally weekends
Additional Preferred
  • Experience using a content management system for publishing web content
  • Experience developing, executing, and measuring impact of communications plans and initiatives to achieve organizational goals
  • Ability to collaborate and exhibit interpersonal and communication skills with various internal and external constituents
  • Applying the AP style to business documents
  • Experience working in higher education
  • Experience creating high-quality branded marketing materials
  • Experience with event planning and implementation
