Summary

The Communications Specialist will be the day-to-day communications support team member for the Human Resources Department, including the Chief Human Resources Officer, HR leaders and other team members. This role will also collaborate with other stakeholders in the Department of Communication and throughout the organization as needed.

This role will report directly to the HR Communications Manager in the Department of Communication, with a matrixed relationship to the Chief Human Resources Officer. This role will also be a part of the Internal and Executive Communications team within the Department of Communication. More informally, the position will partner closely with Human Resources team members to ensure alignment on common goal and strategic initiatives for the HR department. HR stakeholders will provide feedback and input for routine performance reviews and quarterly check-ins.

Responsibilities*
  • Provide general communications support for all functions within HR, including but not limited to Talent Acquisition, HR Services, Compensation, Engagement, Recognition, and Payroll.
  • Develop and oversee communication plans for specific initiatives to elevate HR messaging and content.
  • Craft leadership messaging as requested for the CHRO and other HR leaders.
  • Partner with creative service team and web teams to utilize digital, web and social media outlets to amplify HR messaging.
  • Continually seek feedback from leadership and staff to ensure strategies and messaging are compelling, relevant, and timely.
  • Develop data driven communication goals and metrics to track effectiveness and successful messaging.
  • Respond to ad-hoc requests from HR leaders and other stakeholders.

Required Qualifications*
  • Minimum of an undergraduate degree in communication-related field, such as journalism, communications, marketing, public relations, or other relevant field.
  • Proven experience generating client satisfaction and developing solutions in complex matrixed organizations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with understanding of digital media.
  • Advance Microsoft Office skills needed to develop newsletters, presentations, fliers, etc.
  • Experience maintaining electronic communication vehicles, websites, blogs, social media.
  • Ability to work well with others and oversee multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Willingness to receive and accept constructive feedback for professional growth and career advancement.
  • Flexibility in work schedule for primarily remote work and on-site presence as needed.

Desired Qualifications*
  • Direct experience working in Human Resources, a health care and/or academic medical center.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
