Summary of Position | The Communications Coordinator is the lead content creator for PREP, tasked with developing and managing projects, as well as representing PREP in collaborative communication efforts, including those with external partners. From initial concept to post-production, the Communications Coordinator generates creative and innovative print and digital content (writing, graphics, photo, etc.) to maximize the impact and visibility of PREP and PREP-supported activities for diverse target audiences. The Communications Coordinator must demonstrate strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills and possess a clear understanding of audience identification and engagement. The Communications Coordinator’s primary role will be to engage with staff and partners to produce and manage content. The Communications Coordinator will work across external partners and with UNH departments/programs to design and execute science communication projects that benefit PREP, the Piscataqua Region Watershed communities and UNH. Occasional travel and coverage of evening/weekend events is to be expected. |

Other minimum qualifications | 1. 3-5 years’ work experience that demonstrates effectiveness in media, journalism, science communication, marketing, public relations, outreach, social media, digital design, and/or other related fields. 2. Experience writing science-related or technical content for non-science audiences and the public. 3. Ability to handle multiple projects at a given time, and to establish and achieve project success outcomes. 4. Skills or interest in learning one or more of the following: digital photography, digital videography/editing/production, basic skills in graphic design (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva), WordPress (or similar), data visualization (ArcGIS, ESRI StoryMaps), and/or social media management. 5. Team-oriented, enthusiastic, open-minded, adaptable, and creative individual with experience and passion related to marine/estuarine/environmental science and natural resource management. 6. Ability to work independently without requiring detailed management review of general work. |
Additional Preferred Qualifications | 1. Experience reading and summarizing research results, interviewing scientific investigators in indoor and outdoor settings, and translating research findings to the appropriate audience(s). 2. Knowledge of proofreading, editing, and appropriate style guides. 3. Awareness or an interest in local and regional coastal, marine, and environmental topics. 4. Abiliy to utilize multimedia platforms for storytelling and/or data visualization, such as ArcGIS ESRI StoryMaps. |
