Position Summary/Purpose of Position: | The Department of Computer Science at the University of Maryland, College Park, MD, is recruiting a Communications Coordinator. The incumbent will coordinate all communications-related activity for the department. The department is top-ranked for research and teaching in computer science. Its undergraduate program, ranked 8th among public universities by U.S. News & World Report, has an enrollment of more than 3,300 diverse students from around the world. The graduate program ranks 9th among public universities, with over 400 graduate students enrolled. The department has more than 70 internationally renowned faculty members and it employs a highly dedicated staff of more than 30. The successful candidate is entrepreneurial in their work and enjoys collaborating with a variety of internal and external constituencies in a fast-paced environment. The incumbent is expected to ensure a high level of quality control and attention to detail through reviewing, editing and proofing their own work; be able to build productive, cooperative relationships with colleagues, and faculty and staff members; and be able to independently manage competing priorities in a complex and dynamic environment. Physical Demands | This position is generally sedentary in nature. Able to operate a computer and other office equipment including printer and copy machine. Substantive repetitive movements (motions) on the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Good visual acuity to perform repetitive tasks, e.g. typing on a computer keyboard, viewing computer terminals, extensive reading. Able to maneuver around the campus to attend meetings, trainings, workshops, seminars, etc. Able to lift and carry small parcels, packages and other items. Ability to walk short distances, and/or drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials. |
