Job Summary
The Communications Coordinator will assume responsibility for the role of managing editor of Library Trends, overseeing the production process and serving as an essential liaison for journal management and publication. In addition, the Communications Coordinator will contribute to the work of the communications and marketing team by providing enhanced capacity to write stories, complete website updates and enhancements, and manage advertising, sponsorships, and other promotional materials. The position also will assess and develop new tools and techniques for efficient project management.
Duties & Responsibilities
Managing Editor of Library Trends:

  • Coordinate the production process, including schedules, workflows, and deadlines.
  • Organize content, confirming the receipt of articles and supporting files.
  • Communicate with issue editors, authors, and the publisher's production and marketing staff.
  • Gather and manage publishing agreements.
  • Provide guidance regarding the submission of image files for figures and gather copyright permissions as needed.
  • Advise and assist with technical tools utilized for production.
  • Coordinate permissions for reprints.
  • Facilitate copy editing and proofreading.
  • Review and approve proofs.
  • Assist the editor-in-chief as needed.
  • Liaise with the publisher and editor-in-chief to ensure that information is disseminated to the appropriate stakeholders.
  • Periodically review and provide updates for the Library Trends website, managed by the publisher, and IDEALS, the digital repository for scholarly works produced at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
  • Assist with events related to the promotion of the journal.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned.

Other Communications and Marketing:
  • Write and edit stories, website content, advertising copy, and other communications to successfully promote the iSchool.
  • Assess and arrange advertising/sponsorship opportunities that increase the School's visibility and excellence in order to benefit recruitment of outstanding students and faculty.
  • Provide expertise in enhancing website content, completing regular reviews of pages and suggesting new features and functionality that resonate with target audiences.
  • Assess and develop new tools and techniques for efficient project management.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Physical Demands
Work is performed in a typical office environment.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in English, communications, creative writing, or related field. Two years of professional experience in communications, publications, or project management. Experience in copy editing or proofreading; professional writing experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Project management skills; strong organizational skills and attention to detail; excellent written and oral communication; demonstrated ability to learn and utilize technology for executing required tasks.
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5002 - Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after hire. The minimum salary is $55,000, We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. The final salary offer will be determined through a thorough assessment of these elements

Hybrid - Hybrid work options may be available for this position, with the ability to be on-site at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign campus (OR LOCATION) as needed per the University's Workplace Flexibility policy.
Fully Remote - Fully remote work may be possible for this position per the University's Workplace Flexibility policy.
