Join AIR as a Communications Assistant with our Education Statistics team. The mission of our team of experts is to provide statistical evidence that is meaningful, timely, accurate, and trustworthy. Our Education Statistics portfolio focuses on the development, collection, analysis, and communication of international, national, and state statistics. Our primary practice hubs are:

  • Measurement and statistics in large-scale surveys
  • Standards and assessment

AIR’s Education Statistics program area is seeking a Communications Assistant to work with our clients across Education Statistics, including, but not limited to, the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) within the Department of Education, to provide support for education-related communications strategy, including product conceptualization; design and production of print- and web-based products; and outreach planning including social media campaign activities. AIR is looking for someone with concise and compelling writing skills for outreach, experience working in a communications role, and knowledge and interest in communications as a field. This knowledge or interest can be conveyed as a specialty or technical skills beyond those listed here and could include graphic design, UX/UI design for website design, web tracking with Google Analytics and SEO, A/V products, etc. Additional skills include ability to work independently, integrate feedback from multiple sources quickly, identify content related to the interests of our clients, comply with branding requirements, contribute to and implement project plans, and clearly communicate about tasks and priorities.

 

Candidates hired for the position may work remotely within the Unites States (U.S.) or from one of our U.S. office locations.

The responsibilities for the position include:

  • Design and develop a variety of products to engage NCES audiences in person and virtually that can be used across NCES outreach, including the NCES website, national and international conferences, and social media.
  • Contribute to strategy for NCES dissemination and identify measurements for success that can be measured regularly through tools such as Google Analytics and Sprout Social.
  • Continually following current events and information on education that may affect NCES outreach materials and may be appropriate for posting to social media.
  • Develop materials that support strategic communication plans and the promotion of NCES (e.g., fact sheets, summaries, reports on evaluation/metrics), ensuring appropriate clearances and approvals are received.
  • Provide ad-hoc support for other communication-related project work, such as materials and message development and staffing client meetings/conferences.


Education, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or related fields.
  • 1-2 years relevant professional experience.
  • Proven knowledge and effective use of dissemination and/or outreach communication strategies and related information technology.

 Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly time-sensitive environment, while ensuring quality.
  • Ability to work closely and contribute to a small team in a virtual environment.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects involving numerous requests simultaneously for different clients.
  • Strong attention to detail with commitment to accuracy.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to ensure effective communication with individuals at all levels and from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred But Not Required Qualifications:

  • General knowledge of education policy and interest in a wide range of educational issues and research.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience with Canva and/or Sprout Social.
  • Familiarity with SEO tactics and managing Google Analytics for website support.
  • Experience working with a federal agency.

This position is open to U.S. citizens only. Upon hire, incumbent will be required to obtain clearance through the Electronic Questionnaires for Investigations Processing (e-QIP) system .

 

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis. Employment-based visa sponsorship (including H-1B sponsorship) is not available for this position. Depending on project work, qualified candidates may need to meet certain residency requirements.

AIR’s Total Rewards Program , is designed to reward our staff competitively and motivate them to achieve our critical mission. This position offers an anticipated salary of $30.00/hour. Salary offers are made based on internal equity within the institution and external equity with competitive markets. Please note this is the annual salary range for candidates that are based in the United States.
