Teaching & Learning Innovation

Position Overview

Teaching and Learning Innovation (TLI; teaching.utk.edu), a unit of the Division of Faculty Affairs, in the Office of the Provost, seeks qualified applicants for the position of Communications and Marketing Strategist. The person in this position will serve as TLI's in-house expert to develop strategy and lead the unit's marketing and communications efforts. The person in this role will also be TLI’s representative for the marketing and communications community at the University. They will also be the primary contact in marketing and communications collaborations between the Office of Provost and TLI as well as with other offices and units on campus. Finally, they will be charged with producing all promotional, informational, and educational materials for the unit across digital, video, and audio formats. 

The salary range for this position is $55-60k and depends upon experience and earned level of education. Qualifications

 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  •   Overall
    • Developments the communication and marketing strategies of TLI in alignment with its strategic goals making recommendations for best practices and useful software/technology.
    • Leads development and implementation of communication plan for internal and external stakeholders– includes formatting and editing content, ensuring consistency and branding standards are met across campaigns, planning, and executing communication schedules across print, digital, video, web, and social media platforms.
    • Ensures compliance with UT communications best practices.
    • Develops key metrics for assessing communications and marketing success.
    • Manages assessment of stakeholder engagement.
    • Leads collaborations with TLI team members as well as communications professionals across campus and especially in the Office of the Provost to promote and support TLI's desired needs.
    • Represents TLI at all communications-related meetings and conferences as needed.
    • Duties as assigned by the Executive Director of TLI.
  • Graphic Design
    • Creates graphics for websites and email to complement news releases, faculty/student profiles and stories.
    • Develops concepts and appropriate communication vehicles for the unit. These projects may range from small-scale items such as flyers, posters, one page resource documents to larger scale, high-profile, complex projects like newsletters, instructional guides, conference programs and schedules.
  • Videography/Digital Asset Management
    • Set strategy for video and audio production needs to enhance the digital presence of the unit; writes, reviews, and approves all scripts, selects soundbites, and edits for video and audio production.
    • Manage and produce high quality and impactful video and audio projects for internal and external use (presentations, website, social media, and events).
    • Lead and manages post-production work including editing captioning and branding.
    • Produce compelling photography to enhance written content, website, and social media to extend visual brand identity.
    • Attend TLI events/meetings to capture images/videos for marketing use.
    • Maintain video/photography/audio production equipment and associated software inventory, including providing budget estimates for higher-level equipment purchases, repairs, or maintenance needs; performing preventative maintenance on equipment; and maintaining video and audio file records.
  •   Social Media Management
    • Creates plan and make recommendations for regular review, modification, and updating of TLI’s website.
    • Updates and maintains content for developed website, includes formatting and editing content.
    • Plans for scheduled posting on all social media platforms.
    • Research potential social media options and makes recommendations on expansion of social media presence.
    • Develops appropriate social media postings.
    • Manages all social media platforms – including data for contact management

Required Qualification

  • Experience successfully contributing, implementing, and/or leading an organization's communications strategy and growing their offerings to expand their target audience with evidence of impact.
  • Knowledge sufficient to effective use of Canva, Adobe, or other similar marketing and communications software to enhance the user experience and support the unit to produce attractive documents and resources to tell the unit's story of impact.
  • Evidence of ability to successfully use WordPress for the purpose of updating TLI's websites and developing innovative content layouts.
  • Demonstrated ability to use Canvas learning management software to develop a unit, organization, or company's presence within the platform to attract and inform stakeholders about offerings, resource, and upcoming experiences that they might find interesting or related to their needs.
  • Experience creating video, audio, and/or photographic resources for the purpose of providing information and/or professional development.
  • Ability to create and manage online registration system for organizational programming.

Required level/type of experience and/or years of experience

    • Bachelor’s degree and 3 to 4 years of professional experience in communications and marketing.

Preferred level/type of experience and/or years of experience

    • Master’s degree and more than 5 years of professional experience in communications and marketing in an academic setting.
