Position Summary
The Communications and Marketing Coordinator (CMC) will play a pivotal role, serving both the Department of Orthopaedics and the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. As a collaborative professional, the CMC will spearhead the planning, coordination, and execution of comprehensive marketing and communications initiatives.
Working closely with the Associate Chairs for Administration in both departments, the CMC will focus on effectively marketing various initiatives, services, and brand promotions through diverse channels such as websites, internal and external communications, and social media platforms. This role will involve crafting targeted communications tailored for external and internal stakeholders, including faculty, staff, and students.
Functioning as a key advisor within Orthopaedics and Pathology, the CMC will be the lead on all matters related to marketing and communications. This encompasses the definition of messages appropriate for local, state, regional, and national audiences to bolster our mission, elevate our reputation, and foster private and public support.
The responsibilities of the CMC extend to providing expert consultation and overseeing the implementation of communication strategies. This includes but is not limited to developing communications for the various clinical services offerings, UNC Health development efforts, event marketing, promoting research and programs, and showcasing the accomplishments of both departments. The CMC will be instrumental in enhancing the visibility and impact of the departments through strategic and impactful communication efforts.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Experience in communications, marketing, branding, public relations or related field
* Experience managing website design and content
* Superior interpersonal/written and oral communication skills
* Knowledge of the techniques for disseminating information to the public through various channels of communication including print, web, email and various existing and new social media channels
* Excellent organizational skills
* Excellent interpersonal skills and judgment
* Experience with WordPress
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Proven record of accomplishments in clearly articulating strategic messages for communication development.
* Creativity and problem-solving capabilities
* Familiarity with medical terminology
* Proficiency with WordPress
* Proficiency with graphic design, using tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (i.e. InDesign & Photoshop)
* Knowledge of healthcare, Orthopaedics, and/or Pathology
* Familiarity with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
